Problem with music.

Hi
I have this problem and I was wondering about ur opinions about it. My brother, 15, is listening to this anti-christ bands and started buying their CDs. I got nothing against music, but I'm concerned about him. I know that music has a certain effect and what scares me the most is that he started listening at 13. I thought he'll get over it but he didn't. Everytime I bring up the subject he gets all mad and throws things at me. so what should I do?

Watch him closely and make sure he just listens to the music. Thats all you can do without resorting to violence.

But, That's the problem I don't know what's going on inside him. He goes out with his friends and comes home late. I think he's gone far enough, he needs to lighten up a little when it comes to music, it already cozed trouble in school.

Talk to him about the music. I mean, discussion, not objections against the whole messages of the music he's listenning to. Make him talk about what he's thinking about the lyrics.
Coz listenning to music is more often passive. He may appreciate a lot the music and maybe he has never cared about the lyrics.
Discussions would transform this passivity into an activity and so, a critical sense.

Music at this age is more a means of rebellion, in order to be different. It does go well with the puberty, when everyone tries to find out an identity.

I think if you go against this music, he'll go against you, and then discussions would be very hard. Sollicitate his critical sense.

I say don't worry. I was 9 years old when I was listening to xxxx that promoted violence, drug use, and xxxxin' every girl in sight and I don't have the urge to do any of that now. Well I have to admit I used to listen to that kind of music too. I was in perfect control till i had a down period. It' s really addictive..

Anyways don't know all the bands but he's fave is cradle of filth. Their video scared the xxxx out of me. I mean they're like the king of satan. Anyways he also likes rammstein something like that they're german.

It's okay to listen to manson but this is way violent. what got me scared even more is that he started a band. He's 15 for crying out loud how did he do that? He and his band even bought a 500$ drumset within 5 months. His school is already packed with satanist.

Okay this is hard but i'm admitting it, I'm the one who introduced him to this type. He used to like pop bands which was really pathetic and i needed some1 to share the music with. Perfect fit huh? Anyway I feel guilty....:(

You really don't have to worry about all these, music is a tool for
emancipation.

as for the question in the first post: i wouldn't worry about it if i were you. i listen to anti-christ music and i don't worship satan. :D my mom worries about it, but i tell her it's just my taste in music. especially Marilyn Manson type songs, the shouting and 'breaking the instruments' makes me feel good, especially when i'm angry lol..

And Marilyn Manson is far from being stupid. Even if you don't like the music, the person deserves respect.
He was journalist before doing music. His point of view is interesting, even if you might disagree with all the God stuff.
He was interviewed in "bowling for columbine" (Michael Moore), it's interesting to see him speaking out of all his show.
Actually, what i was fearing the most in this documentary was the ones speaking in the name of God, and willing the death of Marilyn Manson. Christianity praises love, I think a lot of ppl don't even know this, or have a very fanciful idea of love.

I listen to and appreciate some music that has Christian inspiration, like Mozart's masses for example, but I do not run to church on Sundays because of it. And no it is not different; it is the same. Let him listen to whatever he wants and just make sure he respects you and your parents. If someone is so fragile in his beliefs, he will eventually find a reason to end up being a useless cancer to society with or without "bad" music.

I did not imply that Christianity advocates murder. I simply replyed to the statement that questioned whether or not religious people have ever killed.......And although I do agree with your point that religion doesn't condone violence or murder, lots of blood has been shed because of it.
