how can anyone forget about him....all the russian top notch fighters are named after him(MIG). By the way, Migoyan created the first MIG during world war 2.

Mikoyan not Migoyan .

Mikoyan is my dads idol literally.Mikoyan and Gurevich are equally in charge of creation and design of high speed fighter jet MIGs.And the name is just a Russian word :

MIG= mgnoveniy, mig.

English translation is MOMENT.

As for the Armenian air force it might as well be nonexistent. There was a joke that back during the war when the turks shot down one of the planes Armenia lost half of its air force.

Incidently, the company is just MIKOYAN now, Gurevich part was dropped.

And does anyone have any info on Armenia's present day Airforce? I know it's not good, but any proper info would be appreciated.

Migs and Sukhois are the best. :)

look sleuth you can even check the links that pyunik gave. The encyclopedia even says how the Mi is from Mikoyan and G from Gurevich. hence MiG, check it boy.

I just translated МиГ with an online translator and it came up as Instant. Wow, so I gues you are right. It is still funny how it is so much like an abbreviation though, they must have meant it that way.

As for the joke. :)

Let's not forget there were Anastas Mikoyan and Artem Mikoyan, brothers, the initial being part of Stalin's henchmen and the latter being the one who designed the Mig.

That xxxxxxx was the leader of arguably the most powerful country in the world, what did he do for Armenians? Nada, nothing. He could have easily given Artsakh and Javakhk back to us, but hey his master Jughashvili might have punished him in hell.

many armenians could have done the same, but no one did. How many armenian leaders weren't there in the soviet that could have done something?

Anyway, the hole point of soviet was, that, not to be a nationalist... :naughty: he acomplished that....and constructed a well working plane, what is wrong with that :D (ahhhh its called a "communist")

If he had tried to change any borders and it looked in any was as if it was nationalistic he would have been promptly shot and all changes he made reversed. Like tres bien said, there really was no room for nationalism back in the day.

Mikoyan designed very nice planes, too bad the wall fell or their latest Jet (MiG-31?) would have been out. Very Fast bird.

Now, it seems like Sukhoi is the top fighter designer company, with Yak as the Trainers and Antonov in the transport sector.

Meh...Stalin was a very brutal man. People still worship him. See, I am preety sure that son of a xxxxx could have done much more, but being the Georgian he is, he was lieing cheating bastard. Then again, Russians themselves have always preferd Brutal leaders over those who try to kiss the people's ass and lie.
