Ok, for the past week my friend and I have been looking for jobs like crazy. We've been going to stores every day and filling out applications and everything. Yesterday, I decided to go by a music store near my house where I bought my microphone. I asked a worker who I could talk to about a job and he told me to go talk to the lady sitting in the back office. She was Armenian and she told me to call the store after 9 and speak to the owner. I called after 9 last night and I told him I was interested in a job. He asked if I had sales experience and I told him I didn't and he said, "Because it might be hard for you. You need to sell stuff in the store. You work off commission." Anyway, he told me to come by on Tuesday at 2, to show me what I'll have to do. Pretty much, I'm sort of hired.

Now, when he said that about commission - does that mean I won't get paid hourly and that's all I get? I asked my parents and they said it can't be, just ask on Tuesday. What do you guys think? Will I get paid hourly plus that commission? Because it's a small, slow store. Literally, there could be days I'll just sit and do nothing. So does that mean I won't get paid those days?

It's most likely minimum wage + commission, or maybe even alittle less than minimum wage. (~$5/hr) However, there are many jobs out there that are commission only (real estate, car sales, financial services, insurance sales, etc)

it's just going to be commission. :)

Easy there. I can't wait until Tuesday. I'll either have the best job, or no job at all. Working there is like, letting a kid live in a Candy store. All that music equipment around me. I'll be wasting my paychecks in there, with discounts too.

You can sell to yourself and get commission.

And get the store discount? Either way, if I get the job, I'm wasting all my money there. Me, in a music store? Come on. That's like putting a kid in a candy store for the rest of his life.

What ever happened to those Blockbuster Music stores? They were nifty.

I think it's part of this a conspiracy. We're on to something...

Blockbuster and Wherehouse made a deal a couple years back. Blockbuster got movies, Wherehouse got music, and they stopped competing with each other.

But wasn't Blockbuster pwning Wherehouse anyway?

Beats me, but either way, it was a smart move for Blockbuster. Record stores aren't doing too well these days. Then again, Blockbuster seems to be a little desperate in their copycating of Net Flix.

Well, how come Warehouse still sells DVD's, and a lot of them too. Also, I really forgot how Blockbuster Music was. Was it just like, you go and buy CD's? No renting involved?

I remember Blockbuster Music having a lot of stuff, and those listening stations. But I'm not sure about renting.

Yeah, I remember there was one right next to my house. Now it's a shoe-store.

You can't rent them, though. That's the point. You can buy DVDs almost anywhere, but the only two large rental chains are Hollywood Video and Blockbuster. Aside from them, its mom and pop or the internet.

Yep. Just a regular record store, like Tower or Virgin or Wherehouse.

Blockbuster Music also sold movies, I think. Weird.

Maaaaaaaan. I just got back from seeing the owner. He was Armenian, I always thought he was Persian. Anyway, before I could bring it up, he brought it up and asked how I felt about getting commission only. I was like, "Yeah, I was gonna ask you about that." I told him I wanted a basic salary and everything and he told me since I have no experience he can't just gimmie that. I don't know, he said the store doesn't work like others. They don't pay minimum wage and start like others. He said if I wanted that I should go to the mall or something. He told me about the commission salary and I was like, "Yeah, that sounds nice, but I'm not getting a gaurentee pay-check." I mean, yeah, it's cool how I'll get 20% off whatever I sell, but then again, the store is way too slow. What's the chances of someone coming in an buying something. I've been there a lot and nothing is sold. Ugh. Now I'm like, confused. Back at having no job. Don't know what to do.

You live in Glendale! I'm sure there are many opportunities. My area sucks, nobody is hiring. I recently applied for a job and I was hired. I start tomorrow and I don't want to go. It's pretty far from where I live too. Blah.

I went to the mall with my friend and turned in like, 50 applications. Every store in the mall. We went others places too- Smart and Final, Sears, etc. Nobody called us back. Nobody! This was my only hope. Now I gotta see if my friend can get me a job where he works, or wait on my aunt to get a job at Bank of America. Nowadays, only connections can get you a job.
