I am curious to know if there are people here that have themselves (or know of somebody that) learned Armenian as an adult...especially if you are NOT Armenian.
How did you do it? books? lessons? CDs?
Any advice/comments you have on the topic would be appreciated. Thanks
p.s. Please don't suggest amazon.com ...been there, done that :D

My classes will start this Friday at the local Armenian Church...there's a bunch more ppl here who are learning or have learned...try doing a search on the forum...if I'm not wrong, someone even recommended a CD...can't recall the name...
Good luck!

Never mind about my classes...:crying: only Sept 15...:crying: for some unknown reason, the lady thought I was a teenager, now she tells me that there are no adult classes, since most of the adults that were enrolled were late, or didn't show up, so they cancelled...I told her I wouldn't mind taking the classes with 15 and 16s years old kids, but apparently I would be "distraction" for the class...(only God knows what she meant by that...)
I'm gonna check if there are other churches around...

^^^ that's not good hun, hope you find someplace else to learn.
In Sydney, a few of my friends as I have said earlier, have started learning Armenian, their father is Armenian, mother Scotish. They are doing pretty well.
Jen, check out the saturday schools (besides the church) they may have some classes.

:crying: There are no other Armenian churches around here...only in San Francisco (50 miles from me)...also, none of the local community colleges offer Armenian...guess I'll have to wait til Sept...

Awwww...that's so sweet of you to offer help! :p I guess I know some of the basics already...I know the alphabet, I can write basic words and I can read. The thing is that I don't know the meaning of the words...
Maybe I could use your help with the pronunciation of the words...let me see if I can get a book first...
Thanks again...that's really nice of you...:p

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! Well, I would swear in Armenian here, but, I'm not sure if I actually know the word, so....
That's lousy, anyway!!! That's retarded!!!! I'm learning with, like, 5-8 year olds, and I'm fine. As a matter of fact, they ask more practical questions than me because I'm just so, "hehehehe, This is so cool. :D"
Jen, I would TOTALLY take up the offers of people here to help you; they've helped me a lot. :) But, it doesn't even sound like you need the classes...you just need somebody with whom to speak Armenian. :) Bah. That church obviously doesn't need your money or help with anything....

You know I actually felt kinda offended by what the lady told me...why the hell can't I take classes with the teenagers? What kind of distraction could I cause? Maybe she thinks I'm gonna go naked or something...(not that it would be a good sight...hehehehehe)...

^^ probably because the teenagers are mainly boys in that class and they'd get distracted by you :) take it as a compliment. But yea, i don't see any reason why you couldn't take class with them.

That could be a possibility, but she has never seen me!!! We only spoke via phone, twice...the first time it was okay for me to attend the classes, the second time it wasn't...go figure...

I have purchased "Pimsleur Armenian Eastern" from amazon...and it's quite good....step by step introduction to some simple phrases....but I am still looking for a good book for a beginner.
If you can suggest a good book it would be great. Thanks.
