Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!


2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

    Russia: “We have evidence of Turkish troops inside Syria”

    According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Russia can present evidence of Turkish soldiers being deployed inside the Syrian border.

    Lavrov further noted that this represented a “creeping expansion” by Turkey on the sovereign nation of Syria.

    The statements were given on Ren-TV earlier today (Sunday) during a live interview. The Russian Foreign Minister also, once again, stressed the importance of including Kurdish militias in the upcoming UN peace talks which are scheduled to begin tomorrow.

    This comes amidst increasing tensions between the Turkish Government and the Russian Federation.

    Last November, Turkey downed a Russian jet fighter and quickly after, ties between the two countries were greatly diminished. Subsequently, both countries denied violating air space and were quick to condemn each other while no apologies were given.

    Lavrov specified his claims during the interview: “According to our data, they (i.e Turkey) have already ‘dug themselves in’ several hundred meters from the border in Syria.” In other news, Lavrov also commented that Russia was willing to coordinate air strikes on ISIS militants with the United States given American consent. More specifically, he suggested:”Russia’s air force should concentrate on freeing Palmyra and the U.S. coalition should concentrate on freeing Raqqa.”

      DUBAI — A United Arab Emirates fighter jet has crashed in the southern port city of Aden during a combat operation in the early morning hours of Monday, killing two pilots.

      A statement from the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen confirmed that the fighter jet was one of the French-made Dassault Mirage 2000-9s participating in the operations.

      The UAE operates alongside the Mirage 2000-9s F-16 block 60s in their Operation Restoring Hope missions over Yemen as well as other logistical and transport aircraft.

      "The Supreme Command of the Armed Forces announced today that a fighter jet taking part in the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia ... in Yemen was missing," a statement on the official WAM news agency said Monday afternoon, without giving further details.

      According to a statement released by the coalition, the Mirage crashed “due to a technical fault.”

      According to the UAE armed forces, clashes last night and earlier this morning took place in Aden between security forces and al-Qaida militants in the southern capital.

      A government official told AFP that a coalition jet had carried out an air raid against the home of a local ISIS commander at dawn, killing the target’s 18-year-old son, near the plane crash site.

      Coalition Apache helicopters were also taking part in the fighting on Monday, security officials said.

      “We saw Apache helicopters fire rockets and open machine gun fire at al-Qaida militants” in the al-Mansoura district of Aden, one witness told the news agency.

      This is the first known case of a UAE jet from the coalition crashing since the campaign began in March last year.

      In December, a Bahraini F-16 crashed in Saudi Arabia due to a "technical error." The pilot was saved and the plane's wreckage was found.

      It was the second coalition jet to crash after a Moroccan warplane went down during a mission over Yemen in May. Its pilot was later found dead and his body was returned home.

      The coalition said at the time that the crash had been caused by a technical fault or human error, and it denied rebel claims that they downed the plane.

        Looks like turks and the Saudis will start their advancements from North and South very soon to impose their Sunni dominance. The question what is the Russian and maybe the Iranian response be?
        Will NATO be forced to be involved to back up turkey? Will Israel use this opportunity to deal with Iran? Will Russia use tactical nukes? The effect on stock markets around the world?
        Things are getting very nasty.

          Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu to start the withdrawal of forces from Syria starting Tuesday. Russia will however keep a military presence at the port of Tartus and at the Khmeimim airbase to observe ceasefire agreements.
          Politics is not about the pursuit of morality nor what's right or wrong
          Its about self interest at personal and national level often at odds with the above.
          Great politicians pursue the National interest and small politicians personal interests

            That was a smart move to avoid any escalating confrontation with NATO's trap turkey. He will keep his naval and air bases, sell a shut load of arms to Syria and keep this control in the background. Very good move!

              It is probably a good move for Russia. Russia will maintain its bases and be able to launch strikes as needed. A rump state on the coast will be maintained for Alawi's, Christians and Kurds, etc, Kurds will continue to be armed and supported in Rojava (and most likely continue to dig in and fortify their holdings - protected by the US and Russia, hopefully though I wouldn't bet on it) as well as the Syrian Army and SDF. They'll let the Iran and Hezbollah fight against ISIS and al-Nusrah in the other parts of Syria which will keep all those parties bogged down in the proxy and sometimes even direct confrontations, which will drain all of them. In the end, either a Federal state or new states will be created from Syria much like the de-facto states in Iraq.

                  Talking to a Romanian friend today about Russia withdrawing bulk of forces from Syria.
                  His estimate is that Russian military personnel that is removed from Syria will turn in their military ID and be given passports as replacement and simply become tourists (lol).
                  A capable Russian presence will remain in Syria is my estimate.
                  A geopoliticle game by west with turc/soody as the lead "bait & switch" con.
                  Don't think Russia is fooled but Assad is under a lot of pressure to make concessions.
                  I still think soody/turc need good thumping.

                    The useless oil smart Saudis have been dumped by the US for a while now. With oil fracking as a backup our administration is in for only selling arms to them there over there unless people.
                    As for turkey, I think the fire was recently lit to cook it. We will see how that belly dancing Sultan will react with his anger issues.

                      Russian Air Force traps scores of Turkmen militants at the Furniluk Forests of Latakia

                      The Russian Air Force trapped several hundred Turkmen militants inside the dense Furniluk Forests of northern Latakia after launching a series of airstrikes near the Turkish city of Yayladagi on Monday afternoon.

                      The Turkmen militants were caught by the Russian Air Force’s reconnaissance planes attempting to enter the Latakia Governorate from one of the Turkish border-crossings near Yayladagi. Upon the entry of Jaysh Al-Turkmen and Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) into Syria, the Russian Air Force struck their convoy of vehicles in the Furniluk Forests, resulting in the rebel fighters scattering around the border in order to evade the powerful aerial assault.

                      When the Russian warplanes backed off, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) would launch their own airstrikes over the Furniluk Forests, keeping up the pressure on the trapped rebel fighters. Making matters worse for the militants, the Syrian Arab Army’s 48th Special Forces Regiment – backed by the Syrian Resistance, the National Defense Forces (NDF), and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) – carried out a ground assault on the final villages located before the Turkish border-crossing into the city of Yayladagi. Currently, the Syrian Armed Forces are only 7.5 km away from the Turkish border-crossing at Yayladagi; however, 3 km of that distance is empty forests.
