Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!


2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

    The Chevy Camaro: A glimmer of hope for General Motors?



    It hasn't been the best year for General Motors.

    After filing for bankruptcy protection and accepting billions of dollars in bailouts from the Canadian and American governments, the Detroit-based automaker now sees a glimmer of hope: the Chevy Camaro, assembled in Oshawa, Ont.

    The 2010 re-make of the classic muscle car has been a hit with consumers. GM says more than 15,000 Camaros have been sold this year. Demand is so high that the Oshawa plant is unable to keep up; several thousand cars are on backorder.

    Ottawa resident Hylton Jorssen was one of the first people to drive a Camaro off the lot. The owner of five Camaros, one of each generation produced, Jorssen says his love affair with the car started back in high school.

    "I've always been a Camaro guy," he said. "It's a mix of the power and the fact that it's a car that moves you from A to B, and does it with style."

    The newest Camaro pays homage to the 1960's muscle car that inspired a cult following over four decades, with wide rear wheels and a low-profile when seated in the two-plus-two interior. But GM spent years reworking many components, and as result parts of the vehicle now look more like a spaceship.

    "It just makes people smile. They see it as youthful optimism," Tom Peters, the head designer of the Camaro, told CBC News.

    Much of the design team's work focused on fuel efficiency and aerodynamics. GM now boasts that, at 9.4 L/100 km, the automatic transmission model of the Camaro is the most fuel efficient V6 engine on the market.

    The automaker knows it has the support of muscle car enthusiasts, so now it is going after a new, younger market – mainly men.

    "We wanted to make sure this had a much broader audience and, in fact, be attractive to future customers who may not be aware of Camaro and frankly may not care what Camaro or cars like Mustang are," Peters said.

    General Motors is aggressively marketing the new Camaro, with a yellow 'bumblebee' version of the vehicle starring in the summer blockbuster Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

    Scott Oldham, an automotive journalist, is one of the many consumers with his name on the Camaro waiting list. Oldham, the editor of the blog Edmunds Inside Line, says even though there are large numbers of consumers who want fuel-efficient cars, there are still those who "don't want to drive a boring sedan."

    "It's really a vehicle of desire, a vehicle of want. Nobody needs a Camaro," Oldham said. "It's a toy that people want, they want to be seen in it and the new Camaro fits that bill perfectly and people are buying it."

    But one model – a niche sports car – isn't enough to turn things around at GM.

    "It's not the kind of profit that's going to make GM the darling of Wall Street again. They need some high value product. And the Camaro is not that," Oldham said.

    Tom Peters of GM agrees. But he's happy that the car he designed has got people talking about GMs' cars — not its problems.

    "It is been a point of light to get us through this, and we're gonna do that," Peters said, on a recent visit to the company's Canadian headquarters, in Oshawa.

    "I think it has a kind of symbolic aspect as a kind of guiding star."

      $40,000 electric car... I don't think it's going to catch on. Most tree huggers and activists aren't known for making huge salaries.

          That camero looks sweet reminds me of growing up in Dtown where all the cool guys drove camaros, trnsams and firebirds.

            Were the roads all sh!tty with potholes, random car parts and glass back then as well?

            I like the retro design, but it's a little too boxy and the front end could have been more aerodynamic.

              Being a GM nut/nerd, I've been following this car for almost 4 years, since even before it was introduced to the mass public via the first Transformers movie. I was getting a little annoyed with how long it was taking to actually release it. I fully anticipated that it was going to sell like hotcakes. Come on, it's a no brainer. The Camaro is a legend. The only reason it died off in sales in the first place is because the pricetag had grown way past what its targeted customers could afford (a fully loaded 2000 & up SS was over $33k which completely defeats the purpose of a muscle car; cheap, raw horsepower [bells & whistles need not apply]). That, and the other major deciding factor between the Pony wars: Female sales. Girls preferred the Mustang over the Camaro because it "sat normal" when you got in. The GM f-body seats were more recessed, and lay back further, which was not something the average American bimbo that is just looking for a "cool/popular" nameplate cared for, so most of the 16 - 34 year old female sales went to the Mustang. That was the biggest reason for the f-body's demise.

              It's already selling very well over here. I'm seeing them fairly frequently on the roads. There are still things I don't care all that much for with the design, like the grill being a smaller degree angle (so that the ends of the grill sink in further than the middle of the grill) than the rest of the front end (bumper, hoodline, etc), which makes it look awful weird, and the giant spaces in the grill reminds me more of the Monte Carlo SS of the '80s than a Camaro of the '60s. Also, the bulge on the hood is a little off looking too for such a short, chubby car. Regardless, it looks really good coming down the road, and is growing on me more every time I see one. I love the old school "Pepsi bottle" body line, which has SO much more character than ANY of these cookie cutter cars being produced by ANY manufacturer today. The fact that even the 6-cylinder puts out 300hp is quite impressive (and destroys the Mustangs credibility; not that a Mustang ever stood up to the GM f-body as far as raw power and acceleration stats). The V8 actually gets half way decent mileage, especially for being 426hp (city is only one less MPG than the V6). All in all, it will be a huge success for GM.                 2009 Indian (aka Pontiac) Uprising Tiger GTO Club Show - Note: This was a Camaro in the parking lot customized by Nickey Chicago, which has upgrade packages from 500 (Stage I package) - 1000 hp (Stage 3 package) for this car I believe this was a Stage I. The owner and a Nickey rep are behind the car to the right. The 2 guys on the left are buddies of mine who had their Pontiacs in the show.

                  I have to say I don't really like the new appearance of those cars you posted, don't know it looks like toy cars and made out of plastic.

                    I agree, but most of the people who are buying these seem to be mortgaging their future or are your run of the mill 50 yr old trying to relive their youth so it isn't going to be a money maker for GM. This car is just good for their image and showing that their engineers are capable of being able to design and produce a product that people want, not a product that they need. I agree with everything you said about the front end design... it's the only thing that doesn't appeal to me.
