Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

    Re: Where The $$$ Is...

The real money is in human trafficing/sex trade... arms/drug dealing. But if you don't have your hand in the crooked money pot and want to make legitimate money then buckle down for the ride because pimping yourself out isn't easy. The future will be in the green/alternate energy fields. You can always find a decent job working in a nuclear power plant like Homer Simpson and run the risk of growing an extra limb or glowing in the dark

Someone who likes to work with kids is either going to be a youth social worker, or a teacher, or a day care attendant, or a babysitter, etc. Something involved with directly interaction with kids, or impacting their lives on a day-to-day basis. IF they don't mind doing ANY of those jobs, than I can understand exploring the best field financially. But to jump from that, to your example of becoming an orthodontist because you like "working with kids" is beyond a far stretch since the profession itself really has nothing to do with working with kids.

Secondly, the Armenians I speak of are not looking to merely "provide for their family". This has nothing to do with being responsible, or any other psuedo-noble cause you want to attribute. I'm talking about the Armenians that want to "make bank". Siggie said earlier in this thread that $75k - $100k/yr isn't considered bank. Perhaps not (though that's subjective). Regardless, if a person can't survive off of $75k+/yr VERY comfortably, WITH a decent chunk of change left over every month, then you're not looking to just "provide for the family". You're looking to spend on over the top luxuries in life. These people want to be able to blow $100 per person at some obscenely expensive restaurant, even though it's all going to end up in the same place as a meal from Chili's in a few hours (the toilet). They want to afford the high end Beamers, or drive a giant SUV, even though there's only one or 2 people in it at a time. JCPenny, or Kohl's isn't good enough for their wardrobe, they need to buy $2k suits, $200 dress shirts etc. from Nordstrom's (or even higher end stores), even though each one is going to be worn once or twice a month at most. There is absolutely NO purpose for wasting money on the above mentioned things other than spending lavishly for sheer status symbol and extravagance. Which brings us to the most important point you missed.

Armenians constantly talk about how it is our Christian faith that has held our identity together for centuries. It is how we got through the Ottoman curse, and how we survive and thrive no matter where we end up globally. Everything is centered around our Christian faith. However, it appears that Armenians are all talk. Are you all forgetting that Jesus told you to live humbly? That it is very difficult for the "well off" to make it passed heaven's gates? Are you forgetting that to desire worldly/material possessions is a sin? I get condemned by most Armenians for being atheist, but I assure you, from what I've witnessed, read and heard, I live my life far more "morally" (by Bible standards) than the VAST majority of Christians that I've meet. Armenians can talk the talk, but when it comes time to walk the walk by following all the rules established by their lord, they're quick to forget about their Christian faith, and become as petty, greedy and materialistic as their Western counterpart consumerist wh*re nations.
      AMEN

Jesus was a carpenter... you want to provide your family, build a freaking roof over their head, throw a couple fish and a loaf of bread on the table. Armenians are starting to remind me of the sevs in the ghetto who drive beamers/mercedes and park it on the lawn of their crack house. And lets face it, the only reason most can afford to do so is because of daddy's money or you're 30 something and still live at home. Not that there is anything wrong with living at home(preserves culture and identity) but, blowing all of your money on your designer clothes and beemers will never get you anywhere in life let alone give you the ability to provide for your family. If 75K-100K isn't considered bank then everyone better start learning how to rob banks because it's not easy to make that kind of money legitimitely anymore. Oh yeah, might even be to late to rob banks because they are even going bankrupt these days.

I am really not a materialistic person. If anything in some respects I am the opposite. Living in S.California on the amt you show above and raising 3 kids does not leave any kind of decent chunk in the bank. Maybe some indecent change at best. I guess I need to take up pimpin to make some chunk to put away.

I agree, 75K-100K wouldn't be enough for a family of 5. I hope those kids are almost old enough to start paper routes, cutting lawns or bus'ing tables. Or dare I say you best be pimpin' out the wife

I'll take the last part as a bad joke and not overreact.

Kids are still young but they keep busy and have a value not measured in dollars.

                I agree.

$75,000 (after taxes) leaves you with $6,250 a month. In Southern California, it will be extremely difficult to provide for a family with that amount. That's not to mention, two kids or as gmd said, three.

Your mortgage/rent alone will take away half your monthly earnings. That's also not including bills, food, etc. $80,000 is close to nothing these days; you may make do, of course, I'm not saying it's impossible. However, it's going to be very, very difficult to live a "comfortable life" with decent change left over every month.

                Just my opinion.

I've got a Bachelors in Engineering and the only way I can see myself making that kind of money (after taxes) is by working 60 hrs a week. Been there... done that when I first started. I don't call that living, I call it slavery.

                      Oh well.

First, I obviously disagree with a certain career you can "choose" which makes you "$$$."

Second, the cost of living is rapidly rising. I can't begin to imagine what I'm looking at, price-wise, if I live away from home in the fall. A single bedroom apartment typically goes for $1,000 a month. Are you kidding me? Now flash forward to real life, $6,250 a month, with a family of four. Bring in the bills and now you're in a tight pickle.

                      Money left over. Pft.
