What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

    On Barack Obama, basketball, and British Knights...#44

    Yes, President Barack Obama won the U.S. presidency by promising Americans that he is the change we need.

    As early as January 30, 2008, in Denver, CO, he was encouraging the masses to "Choose Change"

    "If you choose change, you will have a nominee who doesn't take a dime from Washington lobbyists and PACs. We don't need a candidate who agrees with Republicans that lobbyists are part of the system in Washington. They're part of the problem. And when I'm President, their days of setting the agenda in Washington will be over.

    If you choose change, you will have a nominee who doesn't just tell people what they want to hear. Poll-tested positions and calculated answers might be how Washington confronts challenges, but it's not how you overcome them; it's not how you inspire our nation to come together behind a common purpose; and it's not what America needs right now.

    If you choose change, you will have a nominee who isn't just playing on the same electoral map where half the country starts out against us, because you will have a nominee who has already brought in more Independents and Republicans; young people and new voters; than we have seen in a generation."
    As President Obama has said, the change we seek will take longer than one term or one presidency. Real change—big change—takes many years and requires each generation to embrace the obligations and opportunities that come with the title of Citizen.

    In the late 1980s or early 1990s, a little shoe company by the name of British Knights ran an ad campaign encouraging consumers to "Choose Change"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItabMseeNdI (30 second commerical, fast forward to the :24 mark)

    "Your mother wears Nike -- choose change," http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpag...rssnyt&emc=rss

    Lloyd Daniels (photo above) briefly played with the Lakers in the early 90s donning the #24. (http://www.lakersplayers.org/lloyd-daniels.php) He is a school yard legend who like Obama experimented with drugs in his college days

    In the early 90s', Lloyd was briefly involved in marketing British Knights shoes. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpag...rssnyt&emc=rss

    In his BK commercial, Lloyd exits a Manhattan train, and with the Twin Towers in the background throws a pair of British Knights over his shoulder. I believe his tagline was "I'm Lloyd Daniels, and I'm on the 'A' Train."

    I don't understand the point of this, or the correlation it's trying to draw, unless it's trying to point out that both campaigns were a fraud.

    I don't know WTF BK was talking about, but I don't recall any old people wearing Nikes, and '91 was probably not the best time to claim that Nike wasn't cutting edge. The AIR system had just been developed a few years earlier, and they were continuously expanding on it (adding larger pockets, adding them to the forefoot/not just the heal, etc). And their styling at that point was anything BUT outdated

    BKs, on the other hand, I distinctly remember being absolutely sh*t quality (didn't last more than a few months), and horrible looking, despite their attempts at mimicking "cutting edge" heal technology (the Diamond Bounce, which did absolutely nothing) like their "outdated" counterparts, Nike. In other words, there was no "change" being offered in their psuedo-"choose change" campaign. Today, they are a forgotten brand, while Nike shoes from that era ('80s/'90s) in mint condition command PREMIUM dollars on eBay.

    Oh, you want a shoe story that the media missed? Try this on for size. The man that came up with the AIR pocket system for athletic shoes went to every shoe company imaginable BEFORE going to Nike. He was laughed out of every office. Phil Knight, on the other hand, so the potential in this idea/technology, because he's always been a ballsy, shrewd business man. Lo and behold, the concept took off like a rocket, and coincided with the whole Air Jordan concept perfectly. Nike never looked back.

    Here's another one. When Nike first came to Michael, and offered him more money than any athlete had been offered before for an endorsement (plus his name on the product and control over its design), Michael actually didn't sign right away. He went to Adidas, which he always loved and wore, and asked if they could just MATCH Nike's offer. Don't beat it, just MATCH it. Adidas told him there's no way they could offer that kind of money to an athlete. That sealed the deal for Mikey and Nike, and the rest is history. Bet THAT guy shot himself (and probably not just in his Adidas adorning foot).

    BTW, I just sold these.

                Something I wrote before 9/11. http://web.archive.org/web/200108161....cgi?read=1133

                ------------------------------------------------------------------

                Welcome to the Green Scare - my indy smash hit from 2001

                Ladies, gentlemen and others:

                The Red Scare was the U.S. crackdown on "communists". It was really more like a campaign to promote political agenda while discarding of "undesirables" as identified by J. Edgar Hoover, McCarthy and their friends.

                On the other hand, the confirmed mutual effort of the U.S. and the OECD to reign in "offshore" jurisdictions worldwide appears to some to be merely a crackdown on overzealous "capitalists".

                Supporters of this global campaign likely argue that this pursuit of money launderers, tax cheats and other white collar criminals, known and unknown, and to their booty stashed abroad is long overdue.

                If we are truly witnessing the origin of the "green" scare, its genesis is probably rooted in the following factors:

                1. The proliferation of tax evaders aided by shoddy and shady promoters/providers of "offshore financial vehicles";

                2. The advancement of technology including the use of the internet to market fraudulent schemes and conduct financial transactions within mouseclicks of one another;

                3. The paranoia that the taxpayers of first world tax nations are going offshoe with the overall purpose of defrauding governments;

                4. The increase of specific individuals (Harris, Van Brink, Schneider, etc.) having substantial influence or contorl over small, scarcely populated, isolated island sovereignties;

                5. The overuse of offshore tax havens by criminals, including, in speculation, terrorists, to launder money and safe harbor "ill-gotten" gains or the fear that this can occur if these jurisdictions are not adequeately monitored and forced to self-police;

                6. Offshore promoters, providers, consultants, etc. publicly accusing each other of conducting shams;

                7. World leaders and politicians jockeying for position, status and prolonged "power" professions by taking opposite sides on this "offshore" issue and casting accusations too;

                8. Politicians and other public figures identified as "unknowing" promoters of known shady figures in the dark side of the "offshore" market;

                9. The braggadaccio of tax lawyers, accountants, and financial brokers in marketing illegal financial products to others at seminars across the world;

                10. The belief that the burgeoning amount of monies "offshore" has, or will have, a detrimental effect on the fiscal future of first world tax nations and other emerging nations.

                In the U.S., President Clinton went "all in" on the OECD'S hand to scare tax havens clean as part of his campaign to purge the U.S. of passive or agressive tax protesters and other like offenders.

                During the Bush Administration, the "green" scare will probably continue for political and economic reasons and maybe even national security. For instance, Treasury Secretary O'Neill has succumbed to the power wielded by a Democrat controlled Senate and Bush has realized that his overall agenda will fail horribly without concessions.

                Moreover, President Bush may even be snickering to himself over the thought that he may gain support, and another four years perchance, from the middle class for taking down a couple U.S. attorneys and other wealthy businessmen on Bill Clinton's populist coattails.

                Arguably, the aftermath of the global "green" scare is that the lives of many will be ruined by a small number of people - the perpetrators and the politicians.

                In conclusion, you are all invited to witness the fiscal cleansing of the "offshore" world. Welcome to the Green Scare.

                I'm Lloyd Daniels and I'm on the "A" Train!!! Moo!!! Traveling in an unidentified cattle car with no credentials!!! Do you have any credentials for sale?

                -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                The "Green Scare" concept was taken up by ELF and others worried about the war on dissent in 2002.

                Tweet TweetThis is from the December 7th day of action against the Green Scare and “eco-terrorist” scare-mongering. Activists in Milwaukee hung this banner from an overpass. More information on the SHAC 7 is here.

                    Hey kid, how do you like my new shoe?

                    PHOENIX (AP) - What's the ideal gift for a basketball-obsessed president? Try a size 23 sneaker personally autographed by Shaquille O'Neal.

                    The Phoenix Suns center couldn't be around himself when President Barack Obama arrived at Sky Harbor International Airport Tuesday afternoon. So when the president stepped off of Air Force One, Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon's son Jake made the presentation at the foot of the stairs.

                    The orange-and-white sneaker made a big impression.

                    Obama set it on the ground next to his own, much smaller shoe, and grinned as photographers captured the moment. Then Obama scooped it up and took it with him as he stepped into the presidential limo.

                    On Sunday, O'Neal shared MVP honors with Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers.

                    What he really needs is a good Armenian cobbler.

                    Obama shoes, they are the new sensation.
