Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

ARMENIAN CATHEDRAL NEAR KARS, TURKEY, ON VERGE OF COLLAPSE - US EXPERT ALARMS

    10:42 ~U 03.04.13

Dr. Christina Maranci, Arthur H. Dadian and Ara T. Oztemel Associate
Professor of Armenian Art and Architecture at Tufts University
in Medford, Mass., has issued a call to save the 7th century Mren
Cathedral of Armenia, located in the Kars region of present-day Turkey,
    The Armenian Reporter writes.

Prof. Maranci's areas of expertise include Byzantine
art and architecture, and the art and architecture of the
Transcaucasus-principally Armenia. She is considered one of the
world's authorities on the Mren Cathedral.

According to Dr. Maranci, "the cathedral of Mren is now in danger of
collapse. Constructed circa 638 AD, Mren is a masterpiece of world art
and a product of the 'Golden Age' of Armenian architecture. Bearing an
inscription naming the Roman emperor Heraclius, and a unique sculpted
relief image of Heraclius returning Christendom's greatest relic¬-the
True Cross-to Jerusalem, Mren preserves precious material evidence for
one of the most dramatic and yet poorly documented moments in history.

It is also the largest domed basilica surviving from the region, and a
key example of the architectural achievements of the seventh century."

Dr. Maranci stresses that Mren may not be standing much longer.

"Photographs from the 1990s to the first decade of the 21st century
show the progressive collapse of the south facade. Now the entire south
aisle lies in rubble on the ground, severely compromising the domed
superstructure of the monument and opening the interior and its wall
paintings to the elements," she says. "The prospect of stabilizing what
is left is at present doubtful, however, because of Mren's position
within a military zone in Eastern Turkey (Kars province) next to the
closed Armenian-Turkish border. Visiting the site is forbidden."

Dr. Maranci is campaigning to raise awareness about Mren's precarious
condition. "Mren has stood for over a millennium, bearing world history
on its walls," she says. Its collapse would represent a tragic loss
    to human knowledge."

      Turkey renovating Georgian church

      ARTVIN

Authorities are renovating the Ishkhani Georgian church in
northeastern Turkey in a bid to boost tourism numbers in the Black Sea
province, the Artvin provincial head of culture has said.

Speaking to the Hürriyet Daily News in a phone interview, Hüseyin
AteÅŸ, the Artvin provincial head of culture, said the city was taking
the example of Trabzon and Van.

`We have decided to begin a renovation process after seeing the
examples of the Sümela Monastery in Trabzon and Akdamar Armenian
Church in Van. Those places have seen a boost in tourism interest
recently,' AteÅŸ said April 12. `Now we are renovating the Ishkani
Georgian church. It will also be a gesture toward Turkish-Georgian
      relations.'

Earlier this week, Armenian website Newz.az claimed that the
restoration works on the church in Turkey had been conducted
improperly and blamed the people working on the renovation for being
negligent, incompetent and damaging ancient frescos.

AteÅŸ, however, denied the claims. `Unfortunately, there are always
doubts on these renovation projects, but we are working with an
experienced crew,' AteÅŸ said. `We have also assigned archaeologists to
      follow those claims.'

"Armenian website Newz.az" But whoever is saying it, the pot is calling the kettle black. Turkey / Georgia /Armenia / Azerbaijan - they are all in the dark ages as far as building conservation goes. And Turkish / Georgian / Armenian / Azeri toorizts are all cretins. They would never visit Ishhan anyway - even if the obligatory 6-lane highway (ending in a 200-car carpark and an "interpretation" notice board for idiots) is constructed so they can drive their fat arses all the way to the site. All they are doing is making it less likely that tourists will come, because the sophisiticated visitors from Europe, the only people who will ever go there, would not travel 1000s of miles to see some rebuilt Disneyfied fake.

Vrej, is all you want to do - raise a pointless point about a name? Never mind that yet another church is being destroyed by "restoration", just get the identity of the name right.

Huh! Note the design of the carpet. Must be new (since I can't believe I would not have noticed it when I stayed at that hotel in 2009).

TURK INTENDS TO RETURN HIS LAND IN YERZNKA TO ARMENIANS

                      12:45, 28 May, 2013

YEREVAN, MAY 28, ARMENPRESS: The Turk, living in Germany, Kerem Oktay
sent a letter to the Turkish website aykiridogrular.com, in which he
expressed his intention to return the land, which belonged to him and
his family, located in Turkey to Armenians. As reported by Armenpress,
in his letter Kerem Oktay told that he was born in Mermerli village
in Yerznka and now has been collecting information about his village.

"We got definite information that our village is an Armenian village.

When I was a kid, I heard that two Armenian women lived there. I do
not know who they were and why they lived in the village.

Currently I am gathering information, but still I have not got anything
clear", - wrote the Turk in his letter.

"There are "remnants" in many parts of our village, which belong to
Armenians. There two 3-4 meters high walls in the field. And when we
were kids and scrambled up the wall, my mother always got angry saying
not to climb up the wall, as it will be broken and that it belonged to
the Armenians. And my mother always told me to collect all the stones,
we found there, and put them at those walls", - told Kerem Oktay. He
stated that he intends to return his part of the land in the village
to the legal owners. The Turk asked to send him information related
to the Armenian Genocide committed in their village.

Yerznka is a city in the Western Armenia with a population of 107,175
people (Turks and Kurds) as of the information of 2000.
