Pope Francis to visit Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan

      http://armenpress.am/eng/news/801646...a-in-2016.html

(Crux) After much rumor and speculation, the Vatican confirmed on Saturday that Pope Francis will visit Armenia this June. A trip to the Caucasus, to visit Georgia and Azerbaijan, is also in his schedule for autumn.

The Armenia outing is set for June 24-26, while the stops in Georgia and Azerbaijan will come Sept. 30 – Oct. 2.

Francis had expressed his desire to visit Armenia last November, during an airborne press conference coming back from his Africa tour. However, on previous opportunities the pope had also spoken of possible trips to Peru and his home country Argentina for 2016, neither of which appears likely to happen.

The Armenia foray is bound to cause diplomatic tensions with Turkey, if recent experience is to be taken into consideration.

Pleased to see that Armenia gets a separate schedule from Georgia and Azerbaijan. We deserve that much.

[Pope]Francis praised Azerbaijan as a place of religious tolerance as he met privately with Sheikh ul-Islam, the region’s grand mufti, before the two men held an interreligious meeting at the country’s largest mosque with Orthodox Christian, Muslim and Jewish leaders. Alluding to wars in the region, Francis called on religions to “be active agents working to overcome the tragedies of the past and the tensions of the present.”

Pope Francis has said that the true meaning of Christmas is being drowned out by materialism, the BBC reports.

During a high-security Christmas Mass at the Vatican, the head of the Roman Catholic Church also denounced the continuing suffering of children.

He mentioned those who faced hunger, danger on migration routes and bombing in Syrian cities such as Aleppo.

Those taking part in Saturday's service inside St Peter's Basilica had to pass through metal detectors.

The Mass celebrating the birth of Jesus is the first major event of the Christmas season for the Pope, which will include his noon blessing on Christmas Day.

During the service, he said Christmas had been "taken hostage" by materialism, and that the season needed more humility.

He said people now lived in a time "when the lights of commerce cast the light of God into the shadows, when we are concerned for gifts, but cold toward those who are marginalised".

Throughout the past year, the Pope has urged compassion towards refugees, urging Christians to remember that Jesus himself was a migrant.

      Nice thought Pepsi.
Gives one to think the appeal of man is different than what God appeals to us. Right?

The appeal of man is different than what God appeals to us. Even to this day. That's the real point.
