Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!


2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.

    Things get better when you start giving a sh*t

    Does it? I've noticed something...

    About a year ago I wasn't very active in my Armenianianness... basically it expended about as far as speaking Armenian with my relatives. However, in the last year I've sudden become more Armenian and I've noticed... things seem to be looking up, in many different areas. In general, Armenians are getting more mainstream.. in the last year I've seen more Armenians on T.V. and in magazines (NOT talking about on Armenian television or Armenian magazines) than ever before, I'm seeing more politicians, both Local here in california and in the federal government, who are Armenians. As for for Armenia itself, just recently American completely normalized trade with Armenia (a good thing of course) despite Turkish whining and growth rates are up an dpoverty is going down (very, very, very slowly, but it is happening) and various other good news things.

    Now... is that all stuff that happens anyway, and the kind of things that have BEEN happening? May sound a little selfcentric, but it seems like as soon as I started giving a xxxx stuff started getting better... I'm wondering if it wasn't just me, if there was just some sort of grand awakening in Armenians everywhere this last year or so to make a big push in our direction.

    Of course, not everything is going well.. Turkey and Azerbaijan CONTINUE to do things that hinder us on a daily basis... but over all, it feels like things are looking up for Armenians more than in the past... Anyway, I'm just rambling at this point, just had to share.

    P.S.
    Does the meaning of a word ever just hit you all of a sudden even though it seems it SHOULD be obvious? for example, it just hit me today that Hayast(d)an literally means "Home of the Armenians" (Hyeri Daneh).

    Hey! I had the exact same attitude. My Armenianess was limited with speaking it with my relatives and the history/legends of armenians my grand mother told me when I was younger.

    It's not long ago since I got more interested in my armenian roots.

    And about the title it's maybe that you find more stuff BECAUSE you care more about it..there's no secret.

        What I mean is up until a year ago all I'd hear about is "how poor the armenians are boo hoo hoo, nothing goes right for us" and then I say "hey, I'm armenian, I should get involved" and everything else starts getting better. What I wanna know, is it just my perception that's getting better or is reality actually getting better.

          It's obvious that situation in Armenia is getting better and better. But I stick to my saying: the more you get involved, the more you see good stuff. (because the more you search for it)

            I know what you're saying Hyejinx... maybe we notice positive changes in Armenia and around us concerning Armenians because we care and pay more attention to it now than we did before, or maybe things ARE just getting better. I dunno

              The only way Armenia will improve is if Armenians like us actually give a crap instead of sittin on their asses and whining about how bad the situation is, which is so typical of the hayastancis that I know, most notably my own damn parents. Then the other day they see this program on the Russian channel about how much it has improved there and start telling me about it and im like are you people off your fuking minds what the hell have i been telling you for the past 6 fuking years.

                Hyastancis and Barsgahyes are equally annoying to me, Hayastansis for the reasons you posted (as well as others) because Barsgahyes like sitting around and acting as though they're so much better than everyone else and put down Hayastancis and Hayastan as if they forget that's where their roots are. To be completely honest, and I say this with no bias, the only Armenians that almost as a whole have my respect are Western Armenians. I mean honestly, look at all the Armenian schools... run by Western Armenians. Look at 90% of Armenian publications, ran by Western Armenians. Look at most Armenian films (admittedly they're not very great) and musical groups (systerm of a down, Signal), largely made by Western Armenians, not to mention most Armenian organizations, either for the betterment of Armenia, betterment of Armenians living within the U.S., or for furthering the genocide agenda, were started by or run by (but not necessarily consist of) mostly Western Armenians.

                All I can say is that barsgahyes and hyastancis really need to get their heads out of their asses and start making a difference rather than worrying about what kind of car they drive.

                  yea...I guess I can relate to this in a way. A few years ago I was real proud of where I was from, but didn't really like to represent it, you know, like they would pick up on my accent or what not and I would tell them its nothing, but now I got no probem sharing with people where I'm from. In the past couple of years I've gotten real connected with my Armenian roots.

                    you see the problem is...there people are more concerned about taking care of their families. Opening up schools, producing grade A films. etc...reguires a large budget...they just don't have that kind of finacial aid there. Westerners have better opportunities to reach success. The Armenian literacy rate is very high, I can safely say, the average Hayastancis have a way higher IQ then Western Armenians, but they just can't put it to good use since opportunities rarely every come.
