  • Armenian Constitution - 1500 years old

The reasons for the defeat of Azerbaijan in the war of aggression against the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh has not yet grasped the official Baku. And the manpower is ten times superior to the possibility of Nagorno-Karabakh, and the quantity and quality of weapons was not comparable with arms NKR Defense Army and the economy is oil-bearing republic was a hundred times richer than the economy of Artsakh. What else is needed to win the military campaign, even if it is from the category of unfair. However, as we know, Azerbaijan has made a mistake in their calculations, and its aggression over a heavy defeat, the consequences of which that republic feels to this day.
Meanwhile, the phenomenal success of the Artsakh war entirely logical, but their foundations were laid many centuries before 1988. One of the components of this success is a state mentality of the population of Artsakh, as evidenced by the celebrated today pyatnadtsativekovoy anniversary of the Constitution of the united kingdom of Artsakh and Utica.
Unique for that time - the Constitution was adopted, in modern terms, by the people's will. The circumstances of the adoption of the Armenian Constitution in detail in this book by its author, doctor of historical sciences Kim Kagramanyanom. The book, based on numerous historical material and told about the research approach taken by the king Vachagan in compiling the text of the Constitution. Note also that the Constitution Vachagan Pious is called - The Constitution (Arm. Sahmanadrutyun).
I may be mistaken, but I think the first European Constitution is adopted in 1505 the Polish Sejm Radomska Constitution. Prior to that, in some countries of the world, including in Armenia, there were constitutive laws (Greek polis, Rome), charters (Yasa of Genghis Khan). Of particular interest in this series is adopted in Sparta and orally transmitted "Big retro" (Resolution): "Let the people will be divided into phyla, and Oba, let Gerus included along with the kings of 30 people, and people from time to time going to the river on Evrota meeting. There let people offer solutions, he may accept or reject. The people let it be the supreme authority and power. "

In the Greek historical tradition is considered to be a Spartan Big retro (ruling) the prototype of the Constitution. However, belonged to the retro-three proposals, and even full of wisdom, the Constitution is deemed impossible.

First published on paper in the European Constitution is the Constitution of the Commonwealth - 1791. A few months later, the same was published in 1791 and adopted the Constitution of France. Thus, we may say that the first written constitution in the world is the Armenian Constitution, adopted exactly one thousand five hundred years ago.

Constitution Vachagan Pious has played a huge role in bringing together the life of Karabakh Armenians and Utica, has helped to solve the social and class issues. Thanks to her, and subsequently Sudebnik great Armenian educator and jurist Mkhitar residents of the eastern provinces of Armenia were not only the sense of homeland, but also a statesman. Constitution Vachagan Pious and Sudebnik Mkhitar, along with the Bible, is "desktop" books Armenian Melikov - princes for centuries worthy to govern their country. Legacy Vachagan Pious has become a critical component of the persistence and vitality of the Armenian people.

The Constitution of the King Vachagan - one of the cornerstones of Armenian history. Together with the code of laws of Nerses the Great, Sudebnik Mkhitar and Smbat Sparapet (Gundstablya), as well as the Armenian Constitution, drawn up Shahamir Shaamiryanom, Hovsep Emin and Movses Bagramyan she became a guarantee of future victories, and the revival of the Armenian state.

Never heard of it. I hope others can shed some light on this, would be great if true.
For the first time in more than 600 years, Armenia is free and independent, and we are therefore obligated
to place our national interests ahead of our personal gains or aspirations.

Azg: European values were present in Karabakh, 1,500 years ago

      November 02, 2011
YEREVAN. – Preaching European values in Armenia has become new-fashioned in recent years. But experience has shown that those preachers simply are not aware of the political and juridical heritage of their own people, Azg daily writes.

By the initiative of King Vachagan Barepasht (“the Pious”) of Karabakh (Artsakh) and Utik, a Constitution was adopted 1,500 years ago, in the early 500s, whose rewritten version, which was prepared in 1288, is still kept at Armenian capital Yerevan’s Matenadaran (Armenian ancient manuscript museum). At the initial phase, the draft Constitution was sent to different dwelling areas, where meetings and discussions were held, the people gave their consent, and subsequently the King convened a large national congress, and only after which the Constitution was adopted through a referendum. At the same time, the congress was chaired by a rank-and-file soldier. These methods emerged in Europe 800-1,000 years later.

The First Armenian Constitution is the most vivid example of the fact that, if the natural development of our (Armenian) statehood had not been interrupted by 600-700 years, perhaps we would have been the locomotive of those values which today are the foundations of western democracy.
