On Sunday, the Armenian Cultural Foundation of Los Angeles and the LA chapter of the Homenetmen will host a ground-blessing ceremony, to be officiated by Western Prelate Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian for the soon-to-be-constructed Armenian Youth Center in the heart of Little Armenia.
This is the culmination of hard work and dedication by the Hollywood community to provide its youth with a state-of-the-art facility to meet its growing needs. The center will house the offices of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Karekin Njdeh Gomideh, the Armenian Relief Society Mayr chapter, the Armenian Youth Federation Mousa Dagh chapter, the Soghomon Tehlirian ARF Badanegan chapter, the Hamazkayin chapter and its Ani Dance Troupe, the Armenian National Committee, the Armenian-American Council on Aging, as well as the Los Angeles Homenetmen chapter, which has been an integral part of the realization of this project.
This center will join the St. Garabet Armenian Church and the Rose and Alex Pilibos School to become the epicenter of Little Armenia. Later this year, Asbarez and Horizon will be moving their operations into a vast media center where the former Hollywood center was located on Vermont Avenue. This provides the Armenian-American community with the unique opportunity to become a truly visible entity in the heart of the city and provide the community with the services and activity center, becoming a vibrant part of the mosaic that is Los Angeles.
This project would not have been possible without the generous contributions of Mr & Mrs, Dikran and Zeruhi Der Ghazarian and Mr. Haig Garabedian of Fresno. In appreciation for their continued support and generosity, the project leaders will name the two story's of the building after them.
Their commitment to the community and their vision for further encouraging and developing it is commendable. Their actions must serve as an example to others to serve in the enhancement of our ever-growing community.
This center will serve as a gathering place for the youth and will provide opportunities and services for them to grow and expand their horizons to become better citizens and better members of the community.
We commend and welcome this effort as it is an important tenet in preserving the Armenian identity and expanding the Armenian reach within the Diaspora. Good luck and we look forward to joining you in the coming months.
