Borning in Tbilisi (Georgia) Victor Hambardzumyan was one of the greatest Armenian scientists. The astrophysicist who worked in the field of physics of stars and star ambiguities, star astronomy, dynamics of star system. Hambardzumyan is the founder of theoretical astrophysics in the former USSR. He was a member of the Soviet Academy of Sciences and, until recently, the president of the Armenian Academy of Sciences, the professor of Yerevan State University. He has developed some theories of young star groups, and has developed a method for calculation of disgorging weights from new stars. The new methods based by Hambardzumyan rendered the big influence on development of astronomy.
Hambardzumyan is the founder and not replaceable director of Byurakan astrophysical observatory located in Armenia.
In 1948-55 he was vice-president of the International Astrophysical Union, and in 1968 has been elected as the president of the International Consulate of the Scientific unions. He was also a member of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Besides Hambardzumyan was in membership of many foreign Academies of Sciences and scientific organizations. He has been awarded with many awards and medals of former Soviet Union and foreign scientific organizations.
