Yes i am critical of the diaspora for many things but good things do happen here to and it is worth noting them when they do. I took the family to a dance show put on by the Ani dance group which is sponsored by Hamazkayin. I have been to many of their shows before and they mainly were funny to watch as youngsters tried but failed to make a watchable presentation. Many in the community including myself supported and keep supporting efforts like these and this weekend it really paid off with a great performance far exceeding my own low expectations. Sure these are a bunch of amateurs but they put on a good show this night and included kids of all ages. Some of the dances were very well done and the whole show was a great pleasure to witness. These young people used their spare time to revive and take part in our wonderfully rich culture and it should be noted that we have something good happening here in the Detroit Armenian community. This dance experience was one of the latest examples of improved quality which i have been witnessing in many Armenian events in my area and i hope it is a trend which will catch on. The dance show came on the heels of Elie Berberyans high quality show a week earlier. I have transformed from dreading to attend these events to actually looking forward to the next show and i do hope that those of you who have been estranged from Armenian events such as these over the years will give them another try for they really are quite wonderful things to witness now.
