Fast for Armenia
Visit our website to purchase our "Remember the Forgotten" wristbands, to learn about the projects we support, and to volunteer. Join the thousands who will fast on April 24th for the children of Armenia.
This year, in commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the Armenian Students’ Association of Harvard University along with universities throughout the nation will be contributing to Fast for Armenia (FFA) – an international charity organization begun a year ago that not only recognizes and pays tribute to the victims of the Genocide, but also promotes a brighter future for Armenia.
The principle is simple but powerful: each year, FFA calls for an international, day-long fast on April 24th, Armenian Genocide Commemoration Day. Participants are asked to donate whatever money they would have spent on food that day to designated Armenian charities selected by FFA. Your one day’s food provides a child in Armenia textbooks for one year.
In its first year last year, FFA raised $5000 in just two weeks, and chose to forward its proceeds to the Children of Armenia Fund. These proceeds were able to buy each student of an entire village textbooks for the whole year. This year, the executive board of FFA will again survey a list of nonprofit organizations that dedicate themselves to the principles upheld by Fast for Armenia, and will choose amongst them after careful consideration and thought.
In addition, the Armenian Engineers and Scientists of America (AESA), an IRS registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has kindly accepted to manage the accounting of FFA at a very low overhead cost, and with many benefits including quarterly reports, tax deductible receipts to donors, and financial advice. Through AESA, you can be rest assured that every donated dollar will reach Armenian classrooms.
If possible please put a link to www.fastforarmenia.org on your website! Here, people will be able to donate and also purchase "Remember the Forgotten" wristbands (like the Livestrong ones) that are red, blue, and orange. You will be able to purchase wristbands and make donations through the website. Thank you and please feel free to contact me at [email protected] if you have any questions.
Best,
