I agree with you totally about the double standards regarding "secularism" and democracy. What a joke that is.
France enforces whichever EU law it sees fit and probably all the member nations do the same.
New Zealand put as a shining example of democracy but isn't the English queen still Head of State there? Who voted for her then?
And the English queen/king cannot, by law, be a Catholic. Standards/Standards.

Turkey does itself no favours whatsoever in it's treatment of minorities and it's "bang on" nationalism........as regards it's muslim content, I could care less.
The Prime Minister of New Zealand appoints a governor general...then gets the Queen's seal of approval. So it is a position appointed by an elected member of New Zealand's government.

But the governor general has no role in government apart from that Governor General signs off laws and can call new elections if the government is in chaos. So he/she can't express religious views...which is the entire point of secularism...no religion in politics.

As for a republic...some people think of that but the republican movement is not that big enough yet, we have a Maori King...so we might only need to move a few chairs round, and get to keep a constitutional monarchy.

Getting to racism...you can't escape it anywhere. A lot is due to globalization. Nowhere can escape it. In the end the only way to counter it is through preaching tolerance of other people's cultures and religions, and living by it. Unfortunately many people in Turkey don't believe in tolerance...which results in some Armenian's responding in a equally intolerant manner.

Nope, Turkish Government is the reflection of nation. The issue is fed between two societies. Racism and revenge block the peace... Not only some Turks are racists also some Armenians are racist.
I agree and I alongside many others fight against this Yakamoz but the Turkish people have to be more understanding and completely acknowledge WHY we Armenians feel or think the way we do today. They shouldn't simply come to the conclusion that we hate them all or that we're brainless. They have to understand us and of course, we Armenians should ease up a bit and stop thinking of all Turks as our enemies. Not all Armenians think this way though Yakamoz. Many, many Armenians have left their hate behind but what I want all of you to understand is that we have THE RIGHT to feel angry and if you all work together and see beyond all the lies, you'll be able to change the way we feel. If you take one step forward ... we will take two.

This is the only way we'll be able to move on. The only (and most secure) way.

I started this thread to highlight the frequency and persistency of human rights abuses against people that are considered as "Other", and since then it ha decreased some what , but enough to show improving direction. Now if only they eliminate 301.

Yep, the majority of active posters here are arseholes (and happy to be such, it seems). Most of those that aren't seem to be cowards because they dare not confront the arseholes.

But it's only the internet - don't assign too much importance to this forum. Treat it as a big anthropology experiment - watch the little creatures, give them stimuli so that you can observe their reactions, and, in the end, hope that this stagnant little pond is not an accurate reflection of what most Armenians think and how most Armenians behave.
