Lexington composer Hayg Boyadjian’s composition “Sevan” (after the lake in Armenia) for flute, string orchestra, and timpani will be performed at a concert in New York City Tuesday, June 10 at 8 pm.
The concert is part of the Winter/Spring 2007-2008 schedule of the North/South Consonance Ensemble and it will take place at Christ and St. Stephen’s Church, 120 West 69th St. in Manhattan. The concert is free.
“Sevan” originally written for native American flute, and thus featured on two recordings, will be performed in New York on the modern flute by flautist Lisa Hansen.
The two CD recordings of “Sevan”, on Opus One, and Albany Records, feature soloist James Pellerite, former principal flautist of the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra performing on the native American flute.
“Sevan” has also been performed in Moscow, Russia, and Rosario, Argentina.
Following the New York concert Boyadjian will travel to Yerevan, Armenia for a concert of his works on June 18. The concert, a tribute to Boyadjian’s 70th birthday, will include several world premieres, and take place in the famous Komidas Chamber Concert Hall.
