  • Favorite Modern Armenian Album

Something that is a testament to the 21st century, something that pushes Armenian music forward. Whether it be some of the more classical sounds or be it more traditional sounds presented in a unique way, or perhaps something with a modern western flavor. Something that you can look back on ten years from now and see it as having some merit unlike the many pop acts that in my opinion will be forgotten. I think that is a good way to put it, what is one modern album that you don't think will be easily forgotten?

My pick: Zulal - Notes to a Crane, needs no explanation if you have heard it. Although at times it can sound a bit "silly", the only instruments here are the voices of three women who have managed to convey the beauty of our language to anyone who is willing to listen.

If I could cheat and pick one [or two] more, it would be Armenian Folk Ensemble - Arev for presenting traditional Armenian music in such a energetic and petriotic way, and maintaining that throughout the album, and also The Komitas Project - Es El Yes Em for presenting something very original and very expressive whilst being at the forefront of modernity in our culture.

    What are your picks?
