Eurovision changes privacy rule
Eurovision Song Contest organisers say they may ban countries from the
competition if broadcasters disclose information about voters'
identities.
It comes after a number of people in Azerbaijan were questioned by
police after voting for a song by neighbouring Armenia in this year's
contest.
Phone companies had been responsible for protecting voters' details,
but now broadcasters will shoulder the burden.
Sanctions against offending countries could be a ban of up to three
years.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) said the rule change was to
ensure the protection of voters' privacy.
Last month, an Azerbaijani man told the BBC he had been accused of
being unpatriotic and a "potential security threat", after he sent a
text backing Armenia's song, Jan Jan.
'Totally unacceptable'
The country's authorities said people had merely been invited to
explain why they voted for Armenia.
The two states fought over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region in the
1990s.
The EBU's director general, Jean Reveillon, said violating the privacy
of voters "or interrogation of individuals... is totally unacceptable".
As it does not have the ability to penalise telephone companies, the
body said it would impose sanctions against broadcasters "for any
disclosure of information which could be used to identify voters".
Banning a broadcaster would effectively stop a country from being able
to take part.
Norway's Alexander Rybak won the contest this year, smashing the
record for the most points awarded during the competition with 387.

EUROVISION TO IMPOSE SANCTIONS ON AZERBAIJAN
Information-Analytic Agency NEWS.am
Sept 14 2009
Armenia
Eurovision contest organizers completed the investigation on summoning
Azerbaijani citizens voted for Armenian contestants at Eurovision-2009,
RFE/RL's reports. The decision on sanctions against Azerbaijan will
be made shortly.
Svante Stockselius, the Executive Director of Eurovision Contest stated
that Eurovision's Reference Group, consisting of eight members met
in Oslo to reach a verdict regarding Azerbaijan. It will be further
submitted to European Broadcasting Union's Television Committee,
that plans to announce its decision on Azerbaijan within the next
few days. Stockselius said Azerbaijan could be dismissed of charges
or could be accused of violating Eurovision rules and either fined
or banned from participating in the contest for up to three years.
The working group comprises representatives from Russia, Serbia and
Norway-the last three Eurovision winners as well as Spain, Holland,
Ireland and two representatives of Sweden.
As NEWS.am reported earlier, that Ministry of National Security of
Azerbaijan (MNS) detected Azerbaijani citizen Rovshan Nasirli who
voted for Armenia at Eurovision-2009. 43 Azerbaijani citizens voted
for Arshakyan sisters (Armenian contestants). MNS had a short talk of
their 'political correctness', 'ethics' and other paramount issues
Azerbaijani should not neglect. Nasirli said there was a list of
those voted for Arshakyan sisters.

Re: Armenian Eurovision 2009
You are right iFemale. I think the reason why it sounds so much better is because it has been recorded professionally in a studio. Hope they consider coming to LA after their tour(?) in Russia.Originally posted by iFemale View PostI actually like the final version of this song.
I didn't like it when I first heard the 'Jan Jan' version...
It sounded way off tone and beat.
But now, I actually like this song, after listening to it countless times.
Also, I like the idea that the song isn't about the bullxxxx love scene that everyone else is pulling off. I like how the video involves people/races from around the world; it includes everyone. Not only focusing on our country, but it invites everyone else to groove! With that said, grab my hand, we are dancing nor par!
Pretty cool dance moves, I loved it.
Thanks Federate for the link.

Re: Armenian Eurovision 2009
[QUOTE=Eddo211;261270]They need to do a concert in LA. They are still new and that would make them more recognized.
The link seems to be working now. Their website is a work of art.
They won the Eurovision contest with this performance:
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
This is well done. It is also one of their three videos on their website.
