Well, it's generally called sampling when they take the basic notes of a music and reuse them. Of course, this has to be done by paying royalty fees. However, in the case of Sayat Nova, I don't know if any of this music was copywritten. Even if it was, it may not necessarily have any affect because I believe they can expire after a certain number of years.

It's not okay to steal. I just meant nothing these days is original; no story idea or song music is completely original. They are derived from other sources.

In this sense, I guess your right. I still think Elvis stole the music because I used to like his song .... now I know why, lol. I simply honor Sayat Nova and love all his music (you know he used to write songs/poems in four languages ? Including Turkish) so when I heard his Ashkharumus akh chim kashil I immediately thought I was hearing Elvis's Falling in Love, lol.

That's what I was saying ... maybe it was by accident but I very much doubt it. Like One-Way said, music is sampled on many occasions and I very much believe that Elvis couldn't resist stealing our music. Most don't even know Sayat Nova or who Armenian's even are so I think he might've thought to himself "hey, no one will ever even know". It's a possibility.

i don't know, even if one or two measures sounded the same, this can often be done by accident. A popular song for teaching piano to children is called, "Hot Cross Buns" the song consists of 3 notes, mi, re, and do, and goes mi re do, mi re do, do do, re re, mi re, do.

Now if i were to write a song one day and repeatably use the notes, mi re do, yes it's technically the same as hot cross buns, but it's not like i intentionally stole it, or should have to pay royalties for it

So if many people do it, it isn't stealing anymore? It's like if I go and listen to a Linkin Park song, decide to change a bit of it, write new lyrics, and call it a new record. Anyways, lol, fact is Elvis used our music. Little thief with freaky hair

I have one of Elvis's songs called Falling in Love and since I'm learning and am deep into Armenian traditional, Gusanakan, Joghovrtakan, and Ashughakan music/songs, I immediately realized that there was a similarity between the song written by the Great Sayat Nova called Ashkharumus Akh Chim Kashil and Elvis's Falling in Love. I'm thinking Elvis might've stolen Sayat Nova's music because the part where he sings "I ... can't ... help .... faaaalllling in love ... with ... you" IMMEDIATELY reminds you of Sayat Nova. Things like this have happened in the past if I'm not mistaken so I don't think this is far from reality. Many might say this happened unwillingly or something but I very much doubt that.
