The Academy Awards are tomorrow. I haven't seen like, anything this year, so I'm not really invested in any of the nominated films.
But this is one of those rare years where the Academy membership realized that one of the best films could be made in a language other than English, as they've nominated Michael Haneke's Amour for five awards, including Best Picture. Some critics and entertainment journalists are speculating that 86-year-old Emmanuelle Riva (she turns 87 tomorrow!) could win Best Actress for her performance in the film but I still think Jennifer Lawrence is going to win for the heartwarming (and Harvey Weinstein-backed) Silver Linings Playbook as Amour will probably prove too Euro-miserable for the mostly American voting body. Riva did win the BAFTA, though, which is the British equivalent of the Oscar.
Here is a list of the nominees.
