I think it's not the finding itself that draws people to their conclusions on what the world is about, what they are, etc...
Maybe it's all about the method of inquiry? Traditionally, we resorted to scriptures, and a hierarchal authority, to determine what our view of the world should be. Perhaps we've drifted away from traditional means of determining reality because we've always liked quantitative and qualitative analysis more, and at some point in history, man overstepped the boundaries religion imposed on him, while sniffing around with his curious, pattern seeking nose and found phenomenon that contradicted the scriptures.
But what is it that makes us stick to these discoveries that lead to new beliefs then? Finding unexpected answers doesn't immediately equate into happiness, it's not good enough. So maybe it's a sense of empowerment that we get with a certain understanding of phenomenon that keeps us to a belief.
What do you guys think? I think it's all about a sense of empowerment, it gives you a high that lets you enjoy what you do in your day.
