I am also very upset about this. This is desperation in its most pathetic form. The whole situation is very nerve racking. I just hope something good comes out of all this.

Our officials in Yerevan seem to like blowing Turkish c0ck, did anyone see how they changed the official logo of the Football Federation of Armenia last month? It no longer has Ararat on it... it does not even have Armenian alphabet on it. Just in time for our game with Turkey? Very shameful if we are trying to please those vermin.

As a Turk, I was against our president visiting a country that does not even recognize our borders. However the Armenian gesture of a new logo changed my mind and now I believe as long as good intensions are mutual it's fine with me.

Armenia's goalkeeper is a Russian by the way.


Roman Berezovsky (Armenian: Ռոման Բերեզովսկի, Russian: Березовский Роман Анатольевич, born on August 5, 1974 in Yerevan, Soviet Union) is an Armenian football goalkeeper, the current captain of the Russian Premier League club FC Khimki and a member of Armenia national team. He participated in 51 international matches since his debut in home 1998 World Cup qualification match against Portugal on August 31, 1996. Roman was also voted Russia's best goalkeeper in the late 1990s and is considered as the best Armenian goalkeeper since independence. His stable performances in Armenia national team made him fans' favorite. He is also the current record holder of the saves during penalty kicks in the Russian/USSR championships with 12 saves made.

The Turkish national football team arrived on Friday in Armenia for their first match in the 2010 World Cup qualifying group.



Turkish Football Federation Chairman Mahmut Ozgener said Turkey would face challenging matches against Armenia.

I never heard of the Armenian embargo. What is it?

The embargo has hit the Armenian economy hard and, according to Cengiz Aktar, that hardship has intensified with the Georgian conflict restricting trade access to the important Black Sea port of Poti.
"The port of Poti is under Russian occupation and the Turkish border is closed, so Armenia is in the hands of Russia and Iran. They want desperately for this Turkish border to reopen," he said.
The leaders of Turkey's main opposition parties have strongly condemned President Gul's decision to visit Yerevan, accusing him of betraying the country and its Azerbaijan ally. And, in Armenia, the nationalist Dashnaktsutyun party said it activists will be at the airport where Mr. Gul is to arrive and the football stadium to stage protests demanding Turkey recognize the World War One killings as genocide.

One such group is Fans Without Borders which is sending a group to Yerevan to call an end to the Armenian embargo. One member is Ceran Kener:
"Our is aim is that to say that we don't leave this issues to the States. We don't want to leave this issue to the Diaspora. We want to deal with this issue with ourselves," he said.
Turkish diplomatic sources say that while little diplomatic progress will be made during short visit, the real test will be if substantial negotiations will follow after Mr. Gul's visit.
