i wasnt trying to be argumentative, i just think we dont support the other sporting heroes.

Anyway, ive been to 3 Armenia football games, and the were amazin, i think everyone who has the chance should go. We should get loads to go to the Andorra game in 2004-2005 qualifying, we get more than Andorrans themselves in andorra!

If you calculate the number of grandmasters we have, based on our total population, we might be the best chess country in the world. And how can we forget the great Tigran Petrosyan, who was the world champion at his time?
And that is not to count all the armenians we have that are the top players of other countries...

Kasparov IS half-armenian. He chartered a plane to get his family and other armenians out of Baku when the clashes began.

thats hilarious about the weddings. no but kasparov is actually pretty Armenian. He goes and gives speeches at Armenian churches and is really involved with the Armenian community

Gary Kasparov is half Armenian and half Jewish. His Jewish father died when he was a baby. He was raised by his mothers parents and took there name Kasparian. He does not claim to be either Jewish or Armenian; he calls himself Russian. He was born in Gharapagh, by the way.

He was born in Baku(Azerbaijan), not in Artsakh. But his grandparents from the mothers site are from Artsakh.

Anyway, as u already told ,he doesn't consider himself as armenian.

Year in Chess named for Armenian Champion

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) declared 2004 as the year of Tigran Petrossyan, legendary Armenian chess player.

Petrossyan was the 9th World Chess Champion. He took first place at the 1962 Curacao Candidates tournament to become the challenger for the world chess championship.

In 1963 Petrossyan challenged Mikhail Botvinnik for the World Championship and won with 5 wins, 15 draws, and 2 losses.

He was born on June 17, 1929 in Tbilisi, Georgia, of Armenian parents. In 1946 he moved from Tbilisi to Yerevan and that year won his first Armenian Championships. In 1948 he repeated his success.

In 1949 he moved to Moscow and in 1951, 1956 and 1968 won the Moscow Championships.

Petrossyan was USSR Champion in 1959 and 1961 and in 1966 defeated Boris Spassky to remain World Champion.

In April 1969 Petrossyan lost the crown to Spassky.

Petrossyan played more than 2,500 games, winning more than 62 percent of points. His peak rating was 2680.

On August 13, 1984 he died from cancer in Moscow.
