Azeri Forces Sabotage OSCE Monitoring Mission

STEPANAKERT (Combined Sources)--Azeri armed forces sabotaged on Wednesday a scheduled monitoring of the Nagorno-Karabakh line of contact near Fizouli, firing repeatedly at officials from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on the Karabakh side of the border, the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Foreign Ministry Reported.
The regular monitoring of the line-of-contact between Azerbaijan and Karabakh is always conducted at the same location on both sides of the border by two separate teams.
But the monitoring mission on the Azeri side, headed by the OSCE Chairman's special representatiave, Andrzej Kasprzyk, was taken to an alternate destination away from the site scheduled for monitoring.
Azerbaijan usually undermines the missions by refusing to transport OSCE officials to the wrong section of the border or altogether refusing to allow them to travel in the country.
This time, however, Azeri forces opened sustained machine gun fire on the monitoring mission on the Karabakh side of the border, sending them scrambling for cover.
Kasprzyk called off the monitoring mission after receiving word of the incident near Fizouli.
The monitoring mission on the Karabakh side included the coordinator of the OSCE Office, the Field Assistant to the representative of the OSCE's Chairman-in-office, and representatives from the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense and Foreign Affairs ministries.
