OTTAWA, Canada (Marketwire)—Aris Babikian, the former executive director of the Armenian National Committee of Canada has been appointed as citizenship judge for a three-year full-time term, announced Canada’s Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney on Wednesday.

He will be responsible for making decisions regarding citizenship applications, presiding over citizenship ceremonies and administering the oath of citizenship to new citizens.

Babikian will serve as the new Citizenship Judge in Mississauga, Ontario.

For the last two decades, he has been very involved in immigration, citizenship, social services, culture, human rights and multicultural issues in his community, and is considered an ambassador for the Armenian-Canadian community. He speaks English, Armenian, Arabic, Turkish and Greek.

A former member of the Ontario Film Review Board and the Canadian Ethnocultural Council, Babikian was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, which is awarded to Canadians who make a significant contribution to their fellow citizens and community, and the Ontario Volunteer Service Award.
