DEFENSE REFORMS TO STRENGTHEN ARMENIAN ARMED FORCES

The reforms introduced in Armenia's defense sector are welcomed and
can lead to major strengthening of the country's armed forces, expert
Tevan Poghosyan told NEWS.am, commenting on the statement by the
Armenia defense ministry on intention to revise the defense strategy.
According to him, the reforms will contribute to transparency of the
sector, more efficient funds spending, as well as strengthening of
army-society ties. "The positive point is Armenia will follow the
lead of other states and organizations, including CSTO and NATO,"
the expert said.
The revision of the strategy will provide the directions for further
reforms in security and defense sectors. In the context of the national
security policy, Armenia intends to review the documents of strategic
importance in accordance with new threat assessments.
