  • New Oil Pipeline between Iran and Armenia

Just comes to show our blossoming relations with Iran, especially in the economic sphere. Keep it coming.

ranian Oil Minister Massoud Mirkazemi said Tehran and Yerevan have agreed to construct a pipeline to transfer Iranian oil products to Armenia. Mirkazemi made the remarks during Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan’s visit to Tehran.

According to Mirkazemi, the pipeline will begin from the northwestern city of Tabriz and stretch toward the Armenian border. He noted that it can help Armenia meet parts of its needs for oil products from the Islamic Republic.

Mirkazemi did not disclose other details of the agreement, saying the volume and the value of the exports of oil products will be finalized during a meeting in the near future, Press TV reports.

Within the framework of his visit, Armen Movsisyan met with Iran’s caretaker Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and discussed the construction of a railroad between the two states.

“Iran and Armenia do not have any political problems and this provides good grounds for developing ties in different spheres,” Movsisyan said.

Azeris in Turkey protest against Armenian-Iranian friendship

A group of Azeris residing in Istanbul staged on Tuesday a protest demonstration outside the Iranian Consulate in Turkey, calling on the Iranian authorities to cut relations with Armenia.

The Turkish news agency Cihan reported that about 50 Azeris chanted anti-Armenian slogans, holding up Turkish and Azerbaijani flags, as well as the portraits of the Armenian and Iranian presidents.

One of the protesters, Jelal Ocal, spoke on behalf of the protesters, voicing criticism about the Armenian-Iranian cooperation and calling on Tehran 'to look to the Islamic world, leaving aside the relationship with Armenia".

He claimed Iran was the only Muslim state supporting Armenia.

The protesters laid a black wreath in front of the embassy entrance and then left. No incident was reported during the protest.

true idiots, protesting is not going to change foreign policy - besides imagine if the Russia-Armenia-Iran alliance is strengthened, what pressure that will put on Azerbaijan as it will be all surrounded

If Azeris are an indication of what "the islamic world" does to society, then I don't think they should be using that as an argument to convince Iranian leaders from making sensible business deals.

Indeed, I believe this is what the sultan of baku and his minions fear most, a Moscow-Yerevan-Tehran axis. You can bet that azeri provacatuers will step up efforts to raise social tensions in northern Iran.
For the first time in more than 600 years, Armenia is free and independent, and we are therefore obligated
to place our national interests ahead of our personal gains or aspirations.

I would like to think that Moscow-Yerevan-Tehran axis is forming, but with the closening relations between Turkey and Russia/Iran, I am becoming more sceptical, as it seems Turkey wants to replace Armenia in that axis.

                Interesting article from Azeri press...

Iranian-Armenian friendship or about ‘moral right’ to judge neighbors

The Iranian figures do not condemn the demolition of mosques in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan.

The statements of different Iranian figures addressed to Azerbaijan, in which they try to present themselves as the supporters of Islamic laws and defenders of Muslims have recently intensified.

However, though these statements can be assessed in Azerbaijan as the interference with the internal affairs of the country, the glance on some moments of the Iranian foreign policy makes it clear that these supporters of Islamic norms have no moral right to criticize Azerbaijan.

First, if Iran supports the Islamic values and rights of Muslims so much, why don’t Iranian religious figures say anything about the murder of tens of thousands of Muslims and turning of hundreds of thousands into refugees in the result of Armenian aggression in Azerbaijani territory? The Iranian figures do not condemn the demolition of mosques in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan.

Iran, at the highest level, welcomes Serzh Sargsyan, Seyran Ohanyan, Robert Kocharyan, who took part in the mass murders of Azerbaijanis, Muslims, took part in the genocide of Khojaly civilians. Why don’t Iranian religious figures condemn those, whom they welcome and call these criminals brothers, despite their hands are all in blood of Azerbaijani people: women, children and elderly people?

In addition, today Iran is an important economic and political center of Armenia and as they say in Tehran ‘it extends fraternal assistance’ to Yerevan.

“Tehran does not see any hindrances in expanding ties with neighbor countries, including Armenia”, first Iranian vice president Mohammad Reza Rahimi told a meeting with Armenian Premier Tigran Sargsyan in Tehran. The annual trade between Armenia and Iran is today $400m. According to the Iranian vice president, it is necessary to raise this indicator at least to $1bn. For this purpose the Iranian side offers to make joint investments in trade, transport and energy of Armenia.

So, when it comes to the political, economic and other interests of Iran, the figures of this country forget about Islamic morality, solidarity and support to Muslims. To prove this, we will list just a few projects, implemented in Armenia and the occupied Azerbaijani lands under Iran’s initiative and financial support.

In particular, Iran builds the second section of the gas pipeline to Armenia estimated at a couple of hundreds of millions of dollars. Also Iran lays a new section of the Iran-Armenian railway and for this purpose it allocated a credit in the amount of $400m. The construction of the Tabriz (Iran)-Yeraskh (Armenia) pipeline with an annual capacity of 1.5m tons has been launched. In the future there is a plan to build a terminal to store oil products in Yeraskh city in Armenia’s south. The overall cost of the project, considering the construction of an oil products pipe and a terminal will be about 250-260m dollars.

On the Araz river, bordering on Armenia, Iran builds two strongest hydroelectric power stations in the South Caucasus: in the Armenian side the station will locate in Megri and in Iran-in Karachilar. The construction of the Megri power station is estimated at $323m which will be invested by the Iranian Investment Company.

In line with the agreement, in 15 years the power, generated at the hydroelectric power station, will be supplied to Iran, after which the Megri station will be passed to Armenia for free.

Iran has recently implemented the third project for the construction of high voltage transmission line Iran-Armenia of 400 kV. The cost of the third program of construction of high voltage power line Iran-Armenia and the substation alone will be 107.9 million euros, the construction is financed by Iran’s Development and Export Bank.

A free trade agreement will function between Armenia and Iran. According to the director general of the Armenian Development Agency Robert Harutyunyan, by a preliminary agreement, taxes on goods imported into the country will be zeroed, which completely opens Iranian market of 80 million people to Armenia.
Iran intends to open a shopping center in Armenia, which aims to intensify bilateral cooperation in the economic sphere.
Iran and Armenia deepen military cooperation, and to this end, in 2009 Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan visited Iran, where he was greeted by Defense Minister and the President of Iran.
Thus, the economic and trade cooperation is enhancing with the Armenian side at the initiative and under financial support of Iran, while the deepening of military cooperation with aggressor Armenia was approved on the highest level. .
Also in accordance with the contract between Iran and the separatist regime in Nagorno-Karabakh, joint projects are being implemented in agriculture and other fields. Recently, 20 combines were brought to the occupied Azerbaijani lands from Iran, mowers for combines adapted for harvesting corn will soon be carried. All this has caused strong discontent of Azerbaijan, but Iran, despite its beautiful statements as a result did not abandon the expansion of cooperation with the separatist regime in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Summarizing the results, it can be noted that Azerbaijan does not interfere in the internal affairs of any country, including those of Iran and its relations with Armenian occupier. Such a policy to expand cooperation with Armenia in fact does not cause any condemnation among the numerous religious figures of Iran. These figures consider it possible to call Armenian politicians ‘brothers’ through they personally killed Muslims, destroyed mosques and shrines.

Again, all this is a deeply personal matter of the Iranian side, but it should be recalled that this kind of "brotherly" friendship and its tacit approval, at least, does not give the right to religious and other figures of Iran to talk about commitment to Islamic principles and the protection of Muslims, especially Azerbaijan, which is a really tolerant state, which respects the rights and freedoms of all faiths, especially Islam.

Re: New Oil Pipeline between Iran and Armenia

Geopolitics alone dictates that turkey will not replace Armenia in that axis. What too many people are overlooking is the fact that turkey, it's financial core, and therefore its elite, are still very much tied into the Washington-London 'world system', they get plenty of money from NATO via US, and they are still beholden to western financial system. This is why turks are still attending Davos, and the Bilderburger meetings.

On the geopolitical side, turkey, Iran, and Russia have been rivals for the past 300 years, that is not going to change. Russia is more interested in reaping short term economic benefits from turkey, and causing stress in turkey's Euro-Atlantic relationships. Even with Iran, Russia will never be true allies with because they are still rivals for influence in the Caspian, Central Asian, and Caucasus regions. However, because Iran is no friend of the west, Russia likes to use them when it suits its purposes in the Euro-Atlantic direction.
For the first time in more than 600 years, Armenia is free and independent, and we are therefore obligated
to place our national interests ahead of our personal gains or aspirations.
