ARMENIAN INTERNET UNPROTECTED
YEREVAN, AUGUST 26. ARMINFO. Armenian Internet cannot be
considered protected, as communication with the outer world
is maintained by means of only one fibre-optic line running
through Georgia, Vice-President of the V.P. "Internet
Society" public organization Grigory Saghiyan told ARMINFO.
According to him, satellite communication, which
constitutes 25% of the channel capacity, is an alternative.
"Terrorists can easily organized an Internet attack on
Armenia," Saghiyan said. The "ArmenTel" company provides
Internet access in Armenia. Saghiyan said that Ddos-attacks
can be rebuffed if the "ArmenTel" applies to its Internet
provider. If it is the Russian "Telecom" company, it must
take measures to restrict the number of inquiries sent to
Armenia. "It is rather difficult, and numerous structures
are expected to be involved, including law-enforcement
agencies," Saghiyan said.
As regards a possible attack on the part of Azerbaijani
hackers, Saghiyan said that he thinks Azerbaijan has no
sufficient resources. As far as he knows, Azerbaijan has no
school training specialists capable of creating viruses.
According to Saghiyan, the Azerbaijani side can apply to
other organizations, but each attack is the result of
well-planned actions, but Azerbaijani specialists have no
sufficient skill or resources to organize such a
large-scale attack. Commenting on the rumors about the
nearing death of the Internet, Saghiyan said that in the
course of its development the Internet encounters numerous
problems, but the principles the system is based on prove
that it is quite a "viable" system. He said that the more
sophisticated are hackers' attacks the more effective are
the security measures taken by the people operating the
Internet. The newly developed Internet Protocol V6 includes
numerous methods of control over attacks. The IP V6 has
unlimited address resource. The Armenian "Arminco" company
provides Internet access by means of the IP V6 in Armenia.
