Actually, if you go into the ethnic question, then Azeris are mix of Caucasians and Iranians assimilated under turkic tribes and think they are turks.

It more has to do with memetics than genetics.

yes skhara you are right.etnically they are not turkic tribe.I think they are etnically more connected with iranians and caucasians in ancient times(persians) and to this time.

They claim to be "Turks" when they want support and money from Turkey.
They claim to be "Caucasian Albanians" when it suits them to appear as the region's original population.
They claim to be "Muslims" when they want support from the Islamic world.
They claim to be "democratic and secular Muslims" when they want to appeal to the EU.
They claim to be "oil-rich" when they want to appeal to the US.
They probably claim they are the bravest, most honest, most virile, most handsome, most successful people in the whole World when they look at themselves in a mirror.
