Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

  • Help - Demand cancellation of Anatolian Turkish Association's lecture

I don't know if any of you are aware about this issue here in Toronto, Canada, but the following email I received may help inform you about what is going on. We are hoping that a collaborative effort will CANCEL this lecture that is going to take place at the University of Toronto. It is an Anatolian Turkish Association's lecture featuring the "famous" Genocide denier Dr. Justin McCarthy. If we can get many people to help sign this petition, it will then be presented to the Student Affairs at U of T to not allow this lecture to take place. Below the email, I have put 2 of the sample petition letters that are being signed to help stop this outrageous matter.

Any of your help and support will greatly be appreciated.

    Email:
    Dear ASA member,

Please take action immediately!! It will only take 10 seconds to type your name and e-mail.

    Petition Sample letter 1:
    Dear Sir:

I am writing to express my profound dismay over a lecture organized by the Anatolian Turkish Association at the University of Toronto scheduled for March 29th 2007 by Dr. Justin McCarthy entitled "Why did the Ottomans Relocate the Armenians?" (http://ata.sa.utoronto.ca/).

Dr. McCarthy is a well-known denier of the Armenian Genocide. Allowing such a denier on campus would be similar to providing a platform for a Holocaust denier to voice their “opinions” at a reputable university. The incontestable historical truth of the Armenian Genocide is by no means subject to debate. By providing a forum for historical revisionism you are legitimizing the Turkish government's shameful campaign of denial and encouraging a culture of hate to permeate throughout campus.

Hate speech must not find protection in the academic communities of this country. A person's right to speak must be balanced against another person's right not to be the target of hateful speech. I want to ensure that the University of Toronto will not provide an academic platform to anyone who would peddle in hate, revisionism and denial. The Armenian Students Association (ASA) will be meeting with Students Affairs to discuss this issue. I am requesting that you support the ASA and cancel this attempt to propagate hatred and condone historical revisionism.

I appreciate your consideration of my views and would welcome a response addressing my concerns at the earliest convenience. If you would like to discuss this further, a member of the Armenian National Committee of Toronto can be reached at [email protected] Sir:

    Petition Sample letter 2:
    Dear Sir:

I was deeply troubled to learn that the Anatolian Turkish Association at the University of Toronto will be hosting a lecture on March 29th, 2007 by Dr. Justin McCarthy entitled "Why did the Ottomans Relocate the Armenians?" (http://ata.sa.utoronto.ca/).

Dr. McCarthy is a notorious denier of the Armenian Genocide. He is well known for disseminating lies and parroting the Turkish Government’s shameful line of historical revisionism. Denial represents the final phase of genocide, where the perpetrators and their ilk do everything possible to conceal the evidence, misrepresent the truth, and ultimately rewrite history. Dr. McCarthy’s efforts to deny, minimize or justify the crime of Genocide are morally unconscionable and simply unjustifiable.

Hosting such an outrageous venue will undoubtedly be considered an extremely offensive event that disrespects the rights and dignity of not only your students but also the hundreds of thousands of victims, survivors and descendents of the Armenian Genocide. We ask you to condemn Dr. McCarthy’s lecture and urge you not to provide a platform for Genocide deniers but instead join us in raising our voices against those who carry out the last stage of Genocide.

If you would like to discuss this further, a member of the Armenian National Committee of Toronto can be reached at [email protected].

Re: Help - Demand cancellation of Anatolian Turkish Association's lecture

I don't want to take away any of the gravity from this situation, but there is also a site called www.hackdeface.com. They are continuously hacking sites that give information about the Armenian Genocide (this probably should have been in that discussion area huh?). The "English" they use when writing is hard to understand sometimes but to basically paraphrase: They plan to keep hacking websites until we "give up" or something crazy like that. So, I don't know what we can do about this. If you guys have any suggestions I guess maybe you can make a new thread or something or just contact me.
    Thanks.
