Those are strong accusations....do you want to share with us with any reliable information that you may have about our President Sarkisyan's direct involvement in the death of our hero Monte who officially was killed in action?

Dude every week you try to derail this thread with some anti-Sarkisyan or pro-Saakashvili garbage. You know damn well when you post a political comments like this it leads to 3-4 wasted pages of pointless back-and-forth argument. If you feel so strongly about hating Sarkisyan or loving Saakashvili, MAKE A SEPARATE THREAD. This is a military blog, not a place for you to rant about anti-Armenian propaganda you found on hetq.am or armenianow.com.

@Eddo, Sarkis86, Astalavist...I think it's useless to discuss this issue with these guys, let them think and believe what they want. People who are blind enough not to see the development Armenia and the Armenian armed forces have seen for the past 20 years are not worth taking from your valuable time and contribution to this forum. Specially when they're level of knowledge starts and ends in making claims they themselves could not prove. BTW...you guys let me know when he sends you the private message of the list of businesses and the people Sarkissian has killed...

@Mokum..when I was in Armenia last year I spoke with some people and they told me there wasn't any earthquake in Gymuri, and the Russians exploded an underground A-Bomb to force the Armenians to stop fighting in Karabakh. Should I believe that? If you want certain truths buddy, you rely on reliable data and info. Since in the midst of the war it was pretty difficult to know how exactly was Monte killed, the most reliable piece of info would be the stories told by his brothers in arms and his family. Both Monte's wife, brother, and brothers in arms have confirmed the same story...So i think it would be the best thing to leave our hero rest in peace and honor his memory.

@Moderators, I believe it would be suitable if you put an end to this. This is supposed to be a military topic, and not a place where any random kid could post his political wetdreams on...it's getting disgusting and definitely reducing the value of the issue being discussed!

Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation based on principles of strategic partnership exists in various fields. One of them (and actually one of the most important) is in the sphere of defense and military technology. Defense is a very sensitive topic in the Caucasus due to territorial conflicts between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Nonetheless, Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation in the sphere of defense is developing and now plays an important role in bilateral relations.

Mutual trade in 2011 increased 47% to 2.8 billion dollars. Around 500 Russian companies operate in Azerbaijan. In 2011, according to data provided by the Center for World Arms Trade Analysis, Azerbaijan was the fifth-largest buyer of Russian arms. According to Russian services, Azerbaijan is ready to spend 1 billion dollars per year on buying Russian weapons.

Azerbaijan has to improve its security, as one-fifth of its territory is still occupied by Armenian forces. Azerbaijan doesn't want to take part in a war, but it understands that no one will pay attention to a weak and unarmed state. That is why the increase in defense spendings in Azerbaijan is quite natural. Nowadays the sum Azerbaijan spends on defense is greater than the whole Armenian budget.

All rumours that Azerbaijan stopped buying Russian weapons and prefers Nato analogues are ridiculous. Azerbaijan is still interested in Russian arms and simple statistics show that. The Azerbaijani army still buys Russian weapons and bilateral cooperation in this sphere is well-developed.

One of the most remarkable purchases is the S-300 deal. Azerbaijan has bought two divisions of the Favorit complex, which were presented to the public during one of Azerbaijani military parades. All experts have been impressed by these complexes.

Azerbaijan has also bought an Uran-E naval rocket complex from the Russian Tactic Rocket Arms corporation. The deal was signed in 2010, with the complex costing 75 million dollars. It will be finished in 2014.

In 2011 the Azerbaijani ministry of defense also bought several T-90S tanks from the Russian company Uralvagonzavod. However, the details of the deal were not reported.

In 2009 Azerbaijan bought nine 2S7 Pion artillery complexes. According to the agreement, the complexes were delivered to Azerbaijan in 2011. In 2008, Russia sold 3 Pion facilities to Azerbaijan. The Pion artillery facility is believed to be the most powerful in world at present.

Azerbaijan has also bought twenty four Mi-35M helicopters. In the summer of 2012 another batch of helicopters was delivered to Azerbaijan. The helicopters were produced by the Rosvertol company situated in Rostov-on-Don.

The first 4 helicopters were delivered to the Azerbaijani air forces in December 2011. All in all, one half of the helicopters ordered have already been delivered to Azerbaijan.

Media outlets reported that the 2010 agreement had been updated and that the number of helicopters Azerbaijan was going to buy would be increased. Azerbaijan indeed seems interested in Russian helicopters and is now the biggest buyer of this kind of military equipment.

All these examples are just a small part of the real amount of the arms bought by Azerbaijan. As the leaders of the two nations say, there are no problems in Russian-Azerbaijani relations and cooperation in the defense sphere is obviously a sign of that.

Turkey to return Israeli drones due to technical problems, reports say

Reports say Turkey will return to Tel Aviv three drones made by the Israeli regime due to technical problems.


Turkish military sources said Ankara purchased the drones four years ago to help the army fight the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) members.

The Israeli regime has rejected repeated requests by Ankara to repair the aircraft.

Turkey says one of the drones crashed while operating on a mission in the southeast of the country and the other two have not been used over the past eight months due to technical problems.

Turkey will still be in possession of 10 Israeli unmanned aerial vehicles if it returns the three aircraft to Israel.

The drones are stationed in Batman Air Base in southeastern Turkey and can reach a top speed of 100 km/h at an altitude of 5,400 meters.

The latest development comes amid reports that Turkish and Israeli officials have been engaged in secret ties since the Tel Aviv regime’s 2010 attack on a Gaza-bound Turkish ship that killed nine Turkish activists. Ankara-Tel Aviv relations soured following the deadly incident.

Soldier of Azerbaijani Army dies

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov - APA. A soldier of Azerbaijani Army has died. APA reports that it happened in the military unit of the Defense Ministry in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Soldier Parvin Tofig Babayev, 19, died as a result of the fire opened from his weapon.

Deputy chairman of Defense Ministry’s press service Teymur Abdullayev confirmed the fact to APA. Criminal case has been launched on the fact, investigation is underway.

Babayev had been drafted from Sherur region.
