Here is a very interesting youtube clip from russian TV channel, a history proffesor describing Armenians as being the first cossaks.
The first evidences abut cossaks comes from 13-14th centuries as them being Armenian mercenary forces that were protecting the towns of crimea under name of kazaks. The professor tells that they were called as "kazak" in Armenian. There are records of payments posted by local population centers to them and most of their names are Armenian. They arrived from eastern anatolia as it was run over by mongol/seljuks.
In mid 15th century majority population there became Armenian with their churches and libraries governed by a catolic ptriarchate.
I knew there was something about those dark haired brown eyed cossaks in souhtern russia and Ukraine. I thought that those were the result of mixing slavs with turks. But this is the thrue explanation as turkics arrived there much later. Cossaks are mix of slavs and Armenians, that became largely ortodox and mainly slavic. But even at czarist times they kept their autonomy. Cossaks never accepted serfdom. They were free roaming semi-militarised tribes.
Now we should reflect to the fact that time and again in our long history we have proven to be fierce woriors. We may have lost wars but never run away from battles.
Also now, I can see clearly the connection of cossaks as our hairs doing the same before battles. Going with song and dance as we have done. Having war dances as we do.

Visit the combat foothold
2014-06-21
On June 21, a group of priests visited the combat foothold, located at the south-western part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border.
In these days, the spiritual fathers, who do their services in the other countries, are in Armenia to participate in the congregation meeting, which is being hold once every two years in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
A group of priests involved in the meeting, had expressed a desire to visit one of the combat footholds of the armed forces.
The priests had meetings with the servicemen of the given area in the combat foothold, located at the south-western part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border. After welcoming the priests, the head of combat foothold answered the questions of the priests, presented the distinct features and issues of the combat duty, types of the armaments they have. Holy fathers have also been at the observation points, to follow the functions of the servicemen.
Expressing the gratitude for the patriotic service, the priests pass the His Holliness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of all Armenians, God’s mercy and blessings to the military servicemen of the combat foothold.
At the end of the visit the holy fathers tasted military food, took photos with the staff of the combat foothold.

Պաշտպանության բանակում հակառակորդի գնդակից զինծառայող է զոհվել

Հունիսի 24-ին՝ ժամը 22:50-ի սահմանում, հայ-ադրբեջանական հակամարտ զորքերի շփման գծի արևելյան ուղղությամբ տեղակայված զորամասերից մեկի պահպանության տեղամասի մարտական հենակետում հակառակորդի գնդակից զոհվել է զինծառայող, 1995 թվականին ծնված Արմեն Արթուրի Ավետիսյանը:

Պաշտպանության բանակը կիսում է ծանր կորստյան վիշտը և իր զորակցությունը հայտնում Արմեն Ավետիսյանի ընտանիքի անդամներին, հարազատներին և ծառայակիցներին:

Օրերս Ադրբեջանում՝ Շիրվանի քաղաքային հիվանդանոցում, մահացել է ներքին զորքերի՝ դեռևս 2014-ի մայիսի 16-ին ճանապարհատրանսպորտային պատահարի մեջ ընկած սպա, լեյտենանտ Յուսիֆով Արիֆ Օրուջ օղլուն։ Այս մասին հայտնում է ադրբեջանական «Հաքքըն» լրատվակայքը։

Հիշեցնենք, որ մայիսի 16-ին Յուսիֆովը Mercedes ավտոմեքենայի ղեկին բախվել էր ավտոճանապարհի կողքի ծառին։ Վթարի հետևանքով տուժել էին նաև Յուսիֆովի 2 ծառայակիցները՝ լեյտենանտ Օրհան Ղուրբանովն ու կրտսեր սերժանտ Ազամաթ Մամեդովը։

Հավելենք նաև, որ հունիս ամսվա ընթացքում սա Ադրբեջանի զինված ուժերում և պաշտպանական համակարգի այլ կառույցներում գրանցված մահվան հայտնի դարձած 8-րդ դեպքն է։

Soldier must realize that the state stands with him and appreciates his service – Armenian government (PHOTOS)

YEREVAN. – Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, who is on a working visit to the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), or Artsakh, on Wednesday paid a visit to an NKR Defense Army military base stationed on the frontlines.

The PM toured the military base, dined with the military servicemen, and asked about their readiness, informed the Press Office of the Government of Armenia. In addition, he presented gifts to all the servicemen defending the military base, and for serving the Motherland with loyalty and courage.

In a briefing with reporters, Abrahayan highly appreciated the combat-readiness and psychological condition of the soldiers, and he expressed satisfaction with the living conditions and the food provided for the soldiers.

“As a state, the constant attention toward the defenders of our homeland will be ongoing. The soldier must realize that the state, the people stand with him and appreciate his service, patriotic work,” the Armenian premier specifically said.

Subsequently, Hovik Abrahamyan visited an NKR Defense Army military unit and got familiarized with its service and living conditions.

“You all need to understand that Armenia’s security begins with Artsakh’s security,” Abrahamyan specifically told the military servicemen of the unit.

In addition, the Armenia PM presented watches and household appliances to several soldiers and commanders of the military unit, and in recognition of their high-quality military discipline and conscientiousness.

Hovik Abrahamyan’s working trip to NKR wrapped up with his visit to Artsakh’s defensive positions.

The Armenian government delegation, led by PM Abrahamyan, will return to capital city Yerevan on the same day.
