What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

The kid who died earlier was beaten by drunk Armenian soldiers.

Non combat death: Conscript died as a result of beating

Nineteen-year-old conscript Gevorg Kotinyan, who died in one of the military units in Nagorno-Karabakh last Sunday, was killed as a result of severe beating, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan announced at the National Assembly, saying that Kotinyan was killed by three people.

“The death happened because of breach of inter-personal relations, as a result of a quarrel followed by a scuffle, which was proved also by the post-mortem examination. A criminal case has been filed, and all the three persons in charge have been revealed. Those guilty will be punished after the investigation is over,” Ohanyan said.

Despite this quite responsible statement, the press service of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Defense told ArmeniaNow that there are no detainees in this case now. Mary Sargsyan, head of the press service, however, did not exclude that there will be detainees at the end of the day.

Earlier the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Defense stated that the circle of the crime committers had already been revealed. According to Kotinyan’s relatives, it was four other conscripts serving with Kotinyan who had beaten him.

A criminal case is filed on Kotinyan’s murder under the Criminal Code of Armenia (Article 359 (Breach of relations, prescribed by field manuals, between servicemen not subordinated to each other, committed by a group of persons), as well as Article 112 (Infliction of willful heavy damage to health, committed by a group of persons, causing the death of the aggrieved by negligence)).

Human rights champion Artur Sakunts, Head of the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Office, who visited Kotinyan’s relatives, told ArmeniaNow that according to some sources, Kotinyan was beaten by four conscripts (from Jajur, Stepanakert, Artashat and Yerevan), who were under the influence of alcohol.

Sakunts says that the charges against them correspond to the crime they have committed.

Four arrested in investigation of another death-in-the-ranks case

Four conscripts have been arrested as part of the investigation into the case of 19-year-old conscript Gevorg Kotinyan, who was beaten to death at a military unit in Nagorno-Karabakh last week.

According to Mary Sargsyan, head of the press service of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Defense, conscripts Taron Suvaryan, Vahe Aghajanyan, charged under the Criminal Code of Armenia, Article 359 (breach of relations, prescribed by field manuals, between servicemen not subordinated to each other, committed by a group of persons), as well as Article 112 (infliction of willful heavy damage to health, committed by a group of persons, causing the death of the aggrieved by negligence) were taken into custody on February 10.

Junior sergeant, conscript Margar Davtyan, who is also arrested in this case, is charged under Article 38-359, part 2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (supporting the crime), Article 112, and Article 375 (Abuse of power, transgression of authority or administrative dereliction.))

Senior lieutenant Armen Rafayelyan is also arrested, under penal code Article 375.

In their guilt is established, privates Suvaryan, Aghajanyan and junior sergeant Davtyan may be imprisoned for between 7 and 10 years, and lieutenant Rafayelyan may face an imprisonment of between 2 and 5 years.

According to Sargsyan, the results of the forensic examination of the dead soldier’s body are not ready yet; however, the post-mortem examination showed that his death was caused by severe beating.

Head of the Helsinki Citizens Assembly’s Vanadzor office Artur Sakunts, who visited Kotinyan’s relatives, told ArmeniaNow that according to some sources, Kotinyan was beaten by four conscripts who were under the influence of alcohol.

Sargsyan, however, does not confirm this information, saying that a similar examination is being conducted.
“The results will come very soon, and only then we can say for sure whether they were drunk, and if so, what was the degree of their being drunk, and how much it had influenced their actions,” Sargsyan told ArmeniaNow.

Azerbaijan, Armenia May Go To War Over Territory

      AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE
      Published: 11 Feb 2011 10:23

BAKU, Azerbaijan - Azerbaijan is seriously preparing for war with Armenia over the disputed region of Nagorny Karabakh, the country's defense minister told international peace mediators Feb. 11.

"Azerbaijan is seriously preparing to liberate its territories," Defense Minister Safar Abiyev said in comments published by the ministry's news service.

This is not the first occasion that a top Azerbaijani official has used tough rhetoric over a possible conflict.

Azerbaijan has repeatedly threatened to use force to win back Karabakh if peace talks do not yield results, while Armenia has warned of large-scale retaliation if Baku launches military action.

Abiyev said that Armenia must end what he called its "occupation policy" in Karabakh, where ethnic Armenian separatists backed by Yerevan seized control from Azerbaijan in a war in the early 1990s that left about 30,000 dead.

"Only in this context is a peaceful settlement of the conflict possible," Abiyev said.

Abiyev was speaking to peace mediators from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, whose efforts to find a negotiated solution to the Karabakh dispute have continued for more than a decade.

Abiyev said that Azerbaijan had not yet given up hope that the mediators' efforts could succeed, despite the lack of progress so far.

A leading think tank warned this week that increased spending on weapons, escalating frontline clashes, war-like rhetoric and a virtual breakdown in peace talks were increasing the chances of renewed military action over Karabakh.

The Brussels-based International Crisis Group said that exchanges of fire across the ceasefire line could spiral out of control, threatening regional stability and Western energy interests in the region.

ICG report on Nagorno-Karabakh smells of Azeri oil, Armenian MP says

          February 12, 2011 | 01:12
A regular report on Nagorno-Karabakh by the International Crisis Group (ICG) cannot be viewed as serious. It does not follow the basic principles of international documents, that is, impartiality, Eduard Sharmazanov, Secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) faction, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The document reflects the authors` liking for Azerbaijan, he said. "Specifically, the document indicates the inadvisability of settling the territories under the Armenian side`s control. Are not infrastructures to be developed in the territories for decades? The document claims that Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has not enough room for maneuvering inside the country. On the other hand, the document does not contain a single word about the `demise of the crown` in Azerbaijan. The document calls on Russia not to sell arms to the conflicting parties, without saying anything about supplies of arms to Azerbaijan from Turkey and Bosnia. There are many other examples of the authors` biased attitude. This is evidence that the ICG report smells of Azeri oil. However, Azerbaijan`s oil reserves are not limitless, and the ICG had better follow international principles of tolerance and impartiality in its activities," Sharmazanov said.

In its report, the ICG pointed out a much high probability of hostilities in the Zagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. The report is critical of the Armenian side for allegedly occupying 16% of Azerbaijan`s territory. In this context, the status quo is against Azerbaijan`s interests, the authors say. Armenia must stop sending regular army conscripts to Nagorno-Karabakh, and the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities must put an end to such practices as settlement of Azerbaijani territories, renaming towns once populated by Azerbaijanis and archeological excavations making status quo more intolerable for Azerbaijan.

                • Re: Nagorno-Karabagh: Military Balance Between Armenia & Azerbaijan

My understanding from the start of this was that Azeri's had a huge advantage.

The Soviet leadership at the time was very much against us. Remember that Armenia is celebrating independence it is the first Republic to leave the USSR. That in itself should be understood, as this made the USSR support Azeri's during the early years. Not to mention all the weapons they already had. Remember the USSR did not base any real troops in Armenia, they had huge bases in Azerbaijan. The Radar station is also in Azerbaijan. How do you think they Soviets were planing to take over the Middle East oil fields? The Soviet army was based in Azerbaijan for the thrust! So they had more weapons than God!

Second we have to remember the Republics in all this. Moscow wanted to hang on to the Republics. So here is little tinny Armenia with a big pair of nuts. By suffering this would be an example to the rest, you leave you suffer. We were to suffer and made an example of.

Third let us not forget the quake! We lost at least 35,000 people! Half of Armenia was in ruins. In fact it got so bad that Gorbi left the USA to go back to the USSR because of the Quake. Remember they sent no supplies but a lot of coffins We were told to stop “Rioting” and bury the dead!Everything was a mess, everything it was a second chart! Just in case people needed reminding. We wanted to spend more time finding poeple in the rouble, they wanted us to stop looking for people as this would lead to a health hazard. They forgot to mention the fact that this was in the dead of winter. There is no health risk from the dead bodies, they are being freeze dried.

Fourth we had absolutely no support! None! Americans were too freighted; they made movies about rouge Russian generals wanting to start a Nuke war. There were bigger stakes, bigger republics, and more issues to deal with then help little tinny landlocked Armenia! Loose Nukes, Red Mercury you name it was more important to the west.

Fifth tiny little NKR even smaller than Armenia with a population of 160,000 had no border with Armenia at the time. If you watch early youtube vids of NKR you will see badly supplied badly armed men running for cover every time a Hind went flying by. They had tanks, plans, chopper, money, Afghans, Chechens. What did all this get them?

So now they are spending money again and building an army. The disparity between then and now is not the same. This is not an Armenia that is weak; this is not an Armenia that does not have Air defense. This is not the Armenia with 35,000 + fresh dead bodies in rouble. This is not the same Armenia that pissed off Soviet Leadership. This is a very good little Armenia now ( Evil Grin This is an Armenia with a damn good Army holding the high ground for a change. So let the scumbags come, let them come and this time we will finish it. This time we have air defense, this time we have our own tanks. This time we have trenches, and lines of defense that are deep and troubling. We have offense too. No I don’t want to see blood of our brothers spilled again, but we are cursed we are Armenians this is what we do!

Long Live The Republic Of Armenia…. Getza Hyastan!
