Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

Armenia shows interest in new bullet-proof vest
        21:19 • 08.11.11

Armenia has expressed interest in a new bullet-proof vest produced by the Russian Stali scientific research institute.

Showcased at the Interpolitech-2011 exhibition, the vest is made of polyethylene, according to Flot2017.com website.

The new vest looks almost the same as previous traditional versions made of aramid. However, the new version is 30 percent cheaper.

Defense ministries of Belarus and Kazakhstan have also expressed interest in the new product.

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. Armenians are expected to open occupied Khankendi airport in spite of warnings by the government of Azerbaijan.

They tested night lighting system of runway strip last weekend, APA reports referring to Armenian media.

The airport has 2300-m runway strip with 20 m width. They are planning to open the Khankendi airport with flights to Yerevan at first. The runway strip was extended and summit of the nearby hill was smoothed out for making plane landing easy.

Armenians have started the construction of main airport building in 2008, but the opening scheduled for May 9, 2011 was delayed due some technical problems.

Azerbaijan State Civil Aviation Administration stated that the construction of airport in the occupied territories and organizing flights from other countries to Khankendi without permission of Baku are illegal actions. Baku warned that all measures considered by the legislation, including physical elimination will be used against the planes flying to Khankendi without permission of Baku.

I thought the Video that burjuin posted said 25 meters wide....no problem though, 20 is plenty wide. Pretty good lighting system (HIRLS), it seems the runway is setup for precision approaches (like an ILS system) which can make operations in any weather conditions except for thick fog or blowing snow. Removing tops of the hillside along the approach path is no easy job, but that would make sure that the aircraft on the glide slope maintain proper terrain clearance while IMC (in clouds), also it will reduce a steep angled approach during VFR operations. The four red light we see in the video on left side of the runway are called VASI. When you are on the glide path you will see two white/two red. When you are above the glide path you will see three or four white/one or no red, and if you are bellow the glide path you will see all red (bad). This way the pilot can adjust its rate of descent in order to maintain a 3 degree glide path all the way down to the touchdown zone of the runway. The runway is long enough to accomedate all types of heavy aircraft and the asphalt looks to be top grade.

I just returned from a short trip to Armenia.

I used the new airport (arrivals and departures). Very impressive.
The airplane was the new Sukhoi Superjet SSJ-100 on both flights in and out. Nice plane with lots of legroom. The seating was all economy class with 98 seats.
In an effort to make Yerevan aesthetically more pleasing, many buidings in the center and near center have been painted in various colors. They look better. The TV tower has some beautifull lighting. Many buildings and bridges are getting projector lights which is making them look great at night.

The weather was getting colder and it looks like the winter might arrive sooner than normal.

the bad side is buildings in kentron are losing their historical look(early 20 century). There should be always an old quarter imho.

Thanks for the info, interesting stuff.

Its about self interest at personal and national level often at odds with the above.

Latvian authorities to close company brokering weapons sale to Armenia
                      14:47 • 09.11.11

The Latvian authorities will likely revoke license from the company which was earlier reported to have brokered a weapons deal between Armenia and Moldova.

The Moldovan news outlets have quoted a spokesperson for the country's defense ministry, Yanis Sartar, as saying that the sale was illegal. He said the company had assured the Ministry that the Latvian authorities approved the transaction.

"Anything related to the deal is very complicated. Today we come to know new and more interesting details. So it's difficult to say at present how the process will end," he said adding that the special services in Latvia are conducting a probe into the matter.

A Latvian newspaper had earlier reported that journalists had obtained the agreement by which Moldova confirmed selling weapons to Armenia.

It said the parties to the agreement were the Moldovan Defense Ministry and the Latvian company Latspeceksports. According to the paper, the latter purchased arms from Moldova to sell them to Armenia.

It further claimed that the Latvian company did not have an official permission from the Foreign Ministry to carry out the deal. Its request for obtaining a license had been reportedly rejected.

Moldova was recently reported to have sold 60 tons of outdated weaponry to Armenia. The country's Defense Ministry confirmed the report; the Armenian side denied it.
