  • McCain, McCan?: Former US presidential candidate recognizes Armenian genocide

    Published: 11 November, 2009

Republican US Senator John McCain, who lost to current US President Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential race, has said he believes “ample documentation” exists proving that “Genocide had been committed against the Armenian people.”

McCain dodged the issue during his presidential campaign in 2008, failing to properly characterize the crime as Genocide.

“I believe that a genocide was committed against Armenians, and I think there is ample documentation of that,” McCain said in a recent interview with the Georgian service of Voice of America. “The Turkish and Armenian people and states cannot forget the past. Especially Armenians cannot.”

“Because of that,” McCain said, he understood and agreed with Armenia’s efforts to normalize relations with Turkey on a step-by-step basis. “I support that view,” he said.

“We are witnessing significant progress in the relations between Turkey and Armenia,” McCain added. “For the first time, parties are making steps towards the same direction.”

The Arizona Senator is running for re-election in the 2010 Senate race.

Who cares what this tool thinks. Either way it's a day late and dollar short.
For the first time in more than 600 years, Armenia is free and independent, and we are therefore obligated
to place our national interests ahead of our personal gains or aspirations.

I agree, who cares what he thinks. He has been anti armenia his whole career, supported the raising of azeri aid and lowering of armenian aid- this guy is no friend of ours.

Indeed. Azerbaijan and Turkish lobbies supported/endorsed him during the presidential race. I wonder what they think of him now though. I am sure it will be all quiet on the Baku front.

Who cares, he wants to say the G word to get the Armenians votes the same way Obama did then he denied it. Say yes to the G word and deny the existence of the G later. They're both bums alike.

WW3 won't happen as the world economy is too well connected, remember that China is buying up the USA war and corporate debt remember.

Yes, unlike Obama who promised the recognition, Mc Cain came straight out and said he cannot recognize it at this time because it will work against US national interests. At least he didn’t lie to us…………a straight shooter in my book.

What he saying now is what he believed back then anyway. I want to see if Turkey has the balls to make an angry respond to Mc Cain.

When somebody can't pay back debt.... bad things tend to happen.
