  • Who is the government of Armenia accoutable to?

By definition a government is only accountable to the people who can elect it, or have the right to participate in the election of it, so why should the government of Armenia be expected to be accountable to Diaspora Armenians?

It can listen to it, or take their views into consideration for policy decisions but the fact is that the government of Armenia is only the governing body for the citizens of Armenia.

Do you think this is true or not true and why?

Come on, quit trying to push the longstanding Turkish strategy of trying to separate Armenia from the Diaspora.

Armenia, isn't like most countries. Because of her history Armenians have spread throughout most of the world, often times entirely not by choice; however, their hearts are still in the highlands. For us, it's not just a country, its a guarantee that our culture will have a better chance of survival.

Because of these facts many Diaspora Armenians have and are actively supporting Armenia (even if that support is not for the government). Plus, many of us have friends and relatives in Armenia, and so while the government of Armenia should not directly take Diaspora wishes into consideration, it must nevertheless consider them seriously otherwise the Diaspora will cease to have a strong purpose.

I don't want to help Turkey in its efforts to divide Armenia and the Diaspora but I think it is a legitimate question for us to consider regardless of existence of Turkey.

We have to have the capacity to examine difficult questions, even questions that may make our adversaries happy that they are being examined. We have the future of our country and our nation to consider not our enemies'.

Do remember that the Diaspora Armenians were the children of the survivors of the Genocide. They didn't leave their homeland on their own accord, but they had to flee out not to be killed like their parents and grandparents. And because their nation was barbarically killed and pushed out of their homeland, they obviously feel very nationalistic towards their little homeland of today, even though they lived outside for 94 years. It's natural for most of them to feel this way.

About the people of today's Armenia having elected their government by choice; but seriously how many choices did they have? It was either Levon Der Bedrossian or Serge. Levon didn't show much confidence and nationalism for his country and the people chose Serge. It's unfortunate that Serge's government is corrupted with Oligarchs and the likes of giving in to turkey's every whims and have thus betrayed the country. The majority of the country is jobless and poor, their men go out of the country to earn their daily bread and they are not in much of a position to fight against a government that is controlling even rallys against them and they are controlling every governing body to support them with the passing of the protocols. It's a sad situation and like many of my compatriots, I am hoping and praying for better things to happen in our homeland.

            It's accountable to Russia.

A farmer had two sons .
One son goes abroad to work the other stays at home to look after the farm
              The father dies.
The son who stayed at home says I am living here so I can do what I like including sell the farm.
NOW, does the other son have any rights to raise objections?

It is not a good analogy because no farm was left to anyone, it was taken over by those who drove off or killed off the farmers. Plus western armenians did not live in eastern armenia thus the farms there were never theirs to begin with.
