Again you well know we Armenians have a bad rep about obeying any law yet we expect others to do it when it regards us. We have a doublestandard when it comes to what behavior is acceptable. Nobody obeys laws in Hayastan? Please, yes if you are talking about the thugs, yes maybe they don't, but normal Armenians do. Given those tourists aren't thugs and criminals, they should obey the laws and respect the rules. So just because some Armenians have broken laws or behaved badly, we should let Iranian tourists break the law and do whatever thing they want even if its disrespectful to living Armenians?

Let's look at the possible scenarios to a Kocharian return. Feel free to comment on these or to add your own scenarios or thoughts.

Kocharian + Dashnaks VS Serge

WHY? Dashnaks need a strong ally and this rumour has been around for quite a long time now. Kocharian and Dashnaks are also on good terms.

KEY QUESTION: What will Dodi Gago do in this scenario? He is a personal friend of Kocharian and it's no secret that he became rich with Kocharian's approval. Where it gets complicated for Gagik is that he is currently in an alliance with Serge and they have agreed to field one candidate in the presidential elections.

BONUS: What will LTP's role be in this? LTP and Dashnaks despise each other and LTP is not too fond of Kocharian either. Possibility that Serge would ally himself with LTP? I find this highly unlikely but worth a thought.

Kocharian + Dodi Gago VS Serge

WHY? As previously mentioned, Kocharian and Dodi Gago are BFFs and it would make sense for Kocharian to join the second biggest political party (that he allegedly founded) and run under it against Serge.

KEY QUESTION: Where does this leave the Dodi Gago-Serge deal about fielding one candidate? Will Gagik pull out from the comfortable ruling coalition he is in right now?

BONUS: LTP's position on this would remain a mystery, probably same as Dashank scenario or remain in his status quo irrelevancy.

Kocharian and Serge swap places - Russian style

WHY? Perhaps Serge and Robert are secretly still friends and would like to mimick the Russian scenario since Serge's initial rise to presidency was viewed as a Putin to Medvedev swap anyway. Not to forget that Russia might exert a lot of pressure on Yerevan to pull this trade off, given Kocharian's excellent relations with the Kremlin and Putin in particular.

KEY QUESTION: How will this be viewed by the Armenian population? It might lead to LTP getting the spark he needs to get back on track as he has simply become irrelevant in the past couple of years. Accusations of corruption might run rampant after such a scenario.

Kocharian doesn't return

WHY? Personal reasons. He's busy with allegedly having a top job at the state Russian gas company or with other endeavours.

KEY QUESTION: None. Everything goes as planned and Serge wins another term at office.

Nice analysis Federate. I think if Serzh doesn't make a concession on Karabakh or normalise relations with Turkey, he will be fine for next election. If he does, it may become chaotic come election season. It's interesting though how Serzh turned out considerably pro-West in comparison with Kocharian, though not a sell out to the West, but a comfortable combination. LTP should just siktir from Armenia, I don't want to even listen to this name.

LTP is the one who created the oligarchic culture that still exists to some extent today. We need a strong president with strong backing of the army and police, who is not affiliated with the oligarchs and can subdue them and get rid of that divide.

Former Armenia’s President does not rule out return to politics

YEREVAN.- Former Armenia’s President Robert Kocharyan does not rule out possibility that he would return to big politics.

In an interview with Armenian Mediamax agency he commented on recent speculations about possibility of his return in the context of Putin-Medvedev swap of power.

“I am amazed that my possible return is linked to political processes in Russia. And this happens immediately after the celebration of the 21st anniversary of Armenia’s independence? I am sure political processes should ripen here in Armenia, and not be directly projected from outside.

I don’t rule out the possibility of my return to big politics. However, only three major factors may force me to return and not the events going on in other country which is very close and important for Armenia. These three factors are:

1. the absence of a tangible and stable improvement of the situation in country’s economy and people’s welfare, and consequently the growth of hopeless moods and migration;

2. the demand for my return to big politics by various layers of the society;

3. my inner belief that I can radically improve the situation.

The ways of return to active politics may vary given these three factors.

Other circumstances only add a political resource but are not fundamental,” he said.

I think the two Armenian presidents are still friends and they try to make it look like there are different parties and free elections and democracy to please the west but non of that is really true. I couldnt care less about democracy in Armenia anyways because in my opinion it is one of the worst forms of government. Mimicing Russia and putting on a false impression of a political opposition is a effective way to display a democratic process without it really being that at all while still leting Russia know we will do as you like. I think the only true opposition to the present government is LTP but thank god he is irrelevant and i hope he will stay that way because he is a trader who would like nothing better then to destroy Hayastan. I really doubt it matters if Serj or Kocharian get elected because i think they are working togather anyways already. I like the fact that Armenia has been developing and improving under these leaders and considering what they started with, they have done much to improve the country. For those who complain that olis run the country well take a good look around and you will see that the selfproclaimed leader of democracy and sole superpower is owned and operated by special interest groups. Atleast the olis ruling Hayastan care about the country and would not give it away no matter what which is way more then you could say about special interest or the fed who own and run the USA. Serj and Kocharian have proven their loyalty to their people in battle and in their political lives even stood up to Russia to defend Armenia. I am against the capitalist model and its use anywhere including Hayastan because it nvariably empowers the few and takes power from everyone else but if that is what they are going with then who better to lead us then these two guys?

Well, economically, Armenia has rather neo-liberal economic policies, so the extreme form of capitalism, which in my view is not the best system right now for Armenia. What we need in my view, is a strong government which is not overpowered by special interests or big business, and provides a social safety net and employs the Nordic Model which is a mixed market system. The oligarchs highlight the deep divide between rich and poor, and a vanishing middle class, this needs to be changed, and a strong government with less ties to big business and a better economic model in my view will help achieve this. Hayastan needs to also create more jobs within the country, invest more within its own infrastructure, and we need to be more self-sufficient and self-reliant.

The essence of democracy (not the corrupted American term) is that the government is represented by the people, that the government has legitimacy through the populace. The main problem with it, is that it becomes effectively the rule of the majority. So I see it this way. If you have a strong leader who stays in power in an undemocratic fashion, but is a true visionary for the country and helps improve the country and so forth, it can work. However, if you have an incompetent leader holding power because he has money or the army behind him, then it is much better for such a democratic model to exist. Power corrupts, and thus fear that they may be elected out of office is a powerful tool that the people hold over politicians. LTP was an undemocratic ruler, and thus he got away with a lot of things, and almost got away with selling Karabakh. If there had been a functioning democracy he would have been voted out right away.

ex-president Robert Kocharian will provide a reliable support to
current President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan.

As Tigran Sargsyan told journalists at National Assembly, "I believe
that Robert Kocharian and Serzh Sargsyan have always been and will
always be friends. Kocharian and Sargsyan are longtime friends,
brothers-in-arms and partners, people, who've been through a war,
shared severe trials and celebrated victories."

"I'm confident, Kocharian will support current president, the same
way Sargsyan has been supporting him for 10 years, to enable success
of our team lead by Sargsyan," the Prime Minister said.

According to PM, 3 coalition parties, RPA, Prosperous Armenia and
Orinats Yerkir have assumed political responsibility in Armenia to
provide implementation of reforms and development in the country.
