DAMASCUS, SYRIA (0:30 P.M.) – At least three Turkish soldiers were killed-in-action after PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) militants conducted a succesful ambush on September 15.
According to a newly released PKK statement, the Turkish troops were caught off-guard on Friday by Kurdish machine-gun fire on the Cudi Mountain, not far from the village of Biliki.
In sight of a barrage of bullets and casualties in their own ranks, the Turkish Army responded fire while rearguard artillery units targeted the hostile Kurdish belligerents minutes later, forcing them to call off the raid.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Air Force said it had neutralized 11 PKK insurgents in Turkey’s southeastern provinces of Siirt and Hakkari on Sunday alone.
Earlier this month, the PKK claimed to have shot dead 28 Turkish soldiers is separate attacks in the same governorates. On the other hand, the Turkish military claims it killed nearly 100 PKK fighters in just two weeks of August.
