  • Huge crisis averted?

For all those unaware, Kocharian was in Georgia this past weekend...

Guns found in music hall shortly before president's arrival

    By Tengiz Pachkoria

    TBILISI

Special services found a submachine gun and a sniper rifle in one of
the music halls that the presidents of Georgia and Armenia are
supposed to visit on Saturday evening.

The State Security Ministry said the submachine gun and the sniper
rifle were found in one of the storage rooms several hours before the
arrival of Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili and Armenian
    President Robert Kocharyan.

It is not known yet who is the owner of the weapons or how they got
into the building. Special services searched both the performers and
    spectators.

Heck, it might've been an attempt on Saakashvili's life. Or it might have been an Azeri, who knows?

But whether we like to admit it or not, Armenia would be in quite an awkward and unstable situation had Kocharian been assassinated.

Scary thought, its like in Godfather III when they try to take Michael out. Imagine the people viewing for presidency there would be about 20 candidates.

          Only 2-3 serious ones though.

Just like in the States, where there are like 18 candidates, but some people don't even know who Ralph Nader is.

In my opinion, Armenia's next president will be Parliament Speaker Arthur Baghdasarian. And for now, I can say that that's a good thing.

I really wish I knew more about Armenian Politics, I feel like a bad Armenian sometimes... I honestly don't even know anything about Kcharian other than no body seems to like him (and for some reason isn't being voted out...)

Here's all you need to know about Armenian politics: Nobody likes anybody.

Except me, who likes Vartan Osganian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. That's about it.

Seriously though, it is a very interesting topic, in my opinion, but I don't think it should be a pre-requisite, unless you plan on getting involved later on (either by becoming a politician, or simply becoming an Armenian citizen). I don't think there are too many people in the diaspora who know all these officials. As long as you have a grasp of the major issues, you should do alright.
