    September 11, 2001

On this solemn day of remembrance

Those of you that still think the attacks on September 11, 2001 were carried out by a state-less Islamic terrorist group somewhere up in the desolate mountains of Afghanistan are the 'real' conspiracy crazies. Actually, I would much rather call these types of people - mentally retarded idiots. Based on what we have vividly seen during the past seven years, it is now common knowledge in many parts of the world that the attacks on September 11, 2001 were carried out by elements within US government, most probably with with foreign support, namely that of Israel and Pakistan. Naturally, we may never know the details of the operation in question. Nonetheless, this operation, an agenda that is meant to draw Western forces into the Persian Gulf and Central Asian region in order to establish permanent military presence, has several very important longterm geostrategic goals as outlined below:

    1) Exploit existing oil/gas reserves at a crucial time in history when existing energy reserves worldwide are either depleting or being privatized by foreign governments.

    2) Attempt to enter Central Asia where immense natural wealth exits and in doing so check Russian and Chinese growth.

    3) Protect the Zionist state from nations like Iraq, Syria and Iran, nations that do not (in the case of Iraq, did not) adhere to the current global system and are thus a direct threat to the Zionist state and the West's regional ambitions.

    4) Ensure that Iran never becomes a regional superpower.

    5) Isolate and undermine the Russian Federation and make the Chinese economy dependent on American controlled energy.

This longterm geostrategic agenda is being diligently worked on today as a direct result of the 9/11 attacks. I ask Americans: Majority of 9/11 terrorists were of Saudi Arabian decent; Osama Bin Laden (if alive) and the Al-Qaeda/Taliban (if they exist) are reportedly based in Pakistan; all Islamic terrorists, from Bosnia to Kashmir, have connections to Pakistan and Saudi Arabia; Islamic fundamentalist schools (madrasas) are established and funded across the world by Saudi Arabia and Pakistan... So, knowing that Islamic terrorism is intimately and directly connected to Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, why does the US have 150,000 troops in Iraq instead? Why is the US trying to provoke a war with Iran and Syria instead? And why is the US trying to undermine the Russian Federation throughout Eurasia instead? Thus far, no one has been able to give me a sensible answer to these questions. However, the answers are somewhat obvious to those who understand the nature of international politics. Nonetheless, we all know that the world's most violent and fundamentalist Islamic nations are Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. These two nations today are America's most important allies in that part of the world and America's most important allies in the "fight against terrorism". From Bosnia to Chechnya, from Azerbaijan to Afghanistan, from the Kashmir to western China, Islamic terrorism has 'only' benefited Western interests, especially that of Washington DC and Tel Aviv.

    International Terrorism Does Not Exist

General Leonid Ivashov was the Chief of Staff of the Russian armed forces when the September 11, 2001, attacks took place. This military man, who lived the events from the inside, offers an analysis which is very different to that of his American colleagues. As he did during the Axis for Peace 2005 conference, he now explains that international terrorism does not exist and that the September 11 attacks were the result of a set-up. What we are seeing is a manipulation by the big powers; this terrorism would not exist without them. He affirms that, instead of faking a "world war on terror", the best way to reduce that kind of attacks is through respect for international law and peaceful cooperation among countries and their citizens.

As the current international situation shows, terrorism emerges where contradiction aggravate, where there is a change of social relations or a change of regime, where there is political, economic or social instability, where there is moral decadence, where cynicism and nihilism triumph, where vice is legalized and where crime spreads. It is globalization what creates the conditions for the emergence of these extremely dangerous phenomena. It is in this context that the new world geo-strategic map is being designed, that the resources of the planet are being re-distributed, that borders are disappearing, that international law is being torn into pieces, that cultural identities are being erased, that spiritual life becomes impoverished...

The analysis of the essence of the globalization process, the military and political doctrines of the United States and other countries, shows that terrorism contributes to a world dominance and the submissiveness of states to a global oligarchy. This means that terrorism is not something independent of world politics but simply an instrument, a means to install a unipolar world with a sole world headquarters, a pretext to erase national borders and to establish the rule of a new world elite. It is precisely this elite that constitutes the key element of world terrorism, its ideologist and its "godfather". The main target of the world elite is the historical, cultural, traditional and natural reality; the existing system of relations among states; the world national and state order of human civilization and national identity. Today's international terrorism is a phenomenon that combines the use of terror by state and non-state political structures as a means to attain their political objectives through people's intimidation, psychological and social destabilization, the elimination of resistance from power organizations and the creation of appropriate conditions for the manipulation of the countries' policies and the behavior of people. Terrorism is the weapon used in a new type of war. At the same time, international terrorism, in complicity with the media, becomes the manager of global processes. It is precisely the symbiosis between media and terror, which allows modifying international politics and the exiting reality. In this context, if we analyze what happened on September 11, 2001, in the United States, we can arrive at the following conclusions:

    1. The organizers of those attacks were the political and business circles interested in destabilizing the world order and who had the means necessary to finance the operation. The political conception of this action matured there where tensions emerged in the administration of financial and other types of resources. We have to look for the reasons of the attacks in the coincidence of interests of the big capital at global and transnational levels, in the circles that were not satisfied with the rhythm of the globalization process or its direction. Unlike traditional wars, whose conception is determined by generals and politicians, the oligarchs and politicians submitted to the former were the ones who did it this time.

    2. Only secret services and their current chiefs x or those retired but still having influence inside the state organizations x have the ability to plan, organize and conduct an operation of such magnitude. Generally, secret services create, finance and control extremist organizations. Without the support of secret services, these organizations cannot exist x let alone carry out operations of such magnitude inside countries so well protected. Planning and carrying out an operation on this scale is extremely complex.

    3. Osama bin Laden and "Al Qaeda" cannot be the organizers nor the performers of the September 11 attacks. They do not have the necessary organization, resources or leaders. Thus, a team of professionals had to be created and the Arab kamikazes are just extras to mask the operation. The September 11 operation modified the course of events in the world in the direction chosen by transnational mafias and international oligarchs; that is, those who hope to control the planet's natural resources, the world information network and the financial flows. This operation also favored the US economic and political elite that also seeks world dominance.

    The use of the term "international terrorism" has the following goals: Hiding the real objectives of the forces deployed all over the world in the struggle for dominance and control; Turning the people's demands to a struggle of undefined goals against an invisible enemy; Destroying basic international norms and changing concepts such as: aggression, state terror, dictatorship or movement of national liberation; Depriving peoples of their legitimate right to fight against aggressions and to reject the work of foreign intelligence services; Establishing the principle of renunciation to national interests, transforming objectives in the military field by giving priority to the war on terror, violating the logic of military alliances to the detriment of a joint defense and to favor the anti-terrorist coalition;

Solving economic problems through a tough military rule using the war on terror as a pretext. In order to fight in an efficient way against international terrorism it is necessary to take the following steps: To confirm before the UN General Assembly the principles of the UN Charter and international law as principles that all states are obliged to respect; To create a geo-strategic organization (perhaps inspired in the Cooperation Organization of Shanghai comprised of Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) with a set of values different to that of the Atlantists; to design a strategy of development of states, a system of international security, another financial and economic model (which would mean that the world would again rest on two pillars); To associate (under the United Nations) the scientific elites in the design and promotion of the philosophical concepts of the Human Being of the 21st Century. To organize the interaction of all religious denominations in the world, on behalf of the stability of humanity's development, security and mutual support.

    ITALIAN SAYS 9-11 SOLVED

It’s common knowledge, he reveals, CIA, Mossad behind terror attacks

Former Italian President Francesco Cossiga, who revealed the existence of Operation Gladio, has told Italy’s oldest and most widely read newspaper that the 9-11 terrorist attacks were run by the CIA and Mossad, and that this was common knowledge among global intelligence agencies. In what translates awkwardly into English, Cossiga told the newspaper Corriere della Sera: “All the [intelligence services] of America and Europe…know well that the disastrous attack has been planned and realized from the Mossad, with the aid of the Zionist world in order to put under accusation the Arabic countries and in order to induce the western powers to take part … in Iraq [and] Afghanistan.” Cossiga was elected president of the Italian Senate in July 1983 before winning a landslide election to become president of the country in 1985, and he remained until 1992. Cossiga’s tendency to be outspoken upset the Italian political establishment, and he was forced to resign after revealing the existence of, and his part in setting up, Operation Gladio. This was a rogue intelligence network under NATO auspices that carried out bombings across Europe in the 1960s, 1970s and ’80s. Gladio’s specialty was to carry out what they termed “false flag” operations—terror attacks that were blamed on their domestic and geopolitical opposition. In March 2001, Gladio agent Vincenzo Vinciguerra stated, in sworn testimony, “You had to attack civilians, the people, women, children, innocent people, unknown people far removed from any political game. The reason was quite simple: to force … the public to turn to the state to ask for greater security.” Cossiga first expressed his doubts about 9-11 in 2001, and is quoted by 9-11 researcherWebster Tarpley saying “The mastermind of the attack must have been a sophisticated mind, provided with ample means not only to recruit fanatic kamikazes, but also highly specialized personnel. I add one thing: it could not be accomplished without infiltrations in the radar and flight security personnel.” Coming from a widely respected former head of state, Cossiga’s assertion that the 9-11 attacks were an inside job and that this is common knowledge among global intelligence agencies is illuminating. It is one more eye-opening confirmation that has not been mentioned by America’s propaganda machine in print or on TV. Nevertheless, because of his experience and status in the world, Cossiga cannot be discounted as a crackpot.

Who was involved in 9/11? Documentary reveals shocking facts

On the anniversary of 9/11, an Italian-produced documentary called ZERO, investigating the tragedy, is opening in Russia. The authors believe that the U.S. official version of events surrounding the attacks can't be true. U.S. networks have rejected the film. The events of September 11 2001 sent shockwaves around the world as hijacked aircraft crashed into the World Trade Centre, bringing the landmark buildings down, the Pentagon, and into a Pennsylvania field in the wake of a failed attempt by passengers to regain control. The Empty space at Ground Zero in Manhattan stands as a memorial to the collapse of the towers, which killed nearly 3000 occupants and rescuers. The makers of the documentary claim that the report of the official U.S. commission into the tragedy of September 11, 2001 is false. One of the films authors, Giulietto Chiesa, who's also an Italian member of the European Parliament, says some of the facts concerning the tragedy remain very suspicious and that a lot of questions are still unanswered. “The people who organised 9/11 are people who knew the geopolitical and energy situation in the world very well. They knew exactly how the attack will change the future of the world,” Chiesa said. The film claims the reason for the collapse of the two towers of the World Trade Center in New York was not the planes crashing into them but a controlled detonation of explosives planted inside the buildings. Referring to witness corroborations, they pose the question of how two of the worlds largest buildings collapsed on their own footprint, and without significantly affecting nearby buildings. Chiesa says he was shocked by the absence of U.S. air defense on the day of the attack, which allowed the hijacked planes reach the World Trade Centre. He also finds it strange that, just three days after 9/11, U.S. officials were able to name all 19 terrorist involved. The film presents evidence that CIA specialists not only new about the planned terrorist attack but assisted them in gaining U.S. visas. The documentary also raises questions about whether the aircraft involved in the Pentagon attack was a Boeing-757. Adding to these questions is the absence of any footage from the many cameras installed around the U.S. Defense HQ, any wreckage from the aircraft, or passenger bodies. The documentary also raises doubts, not only about Osama Bin Laden’s involvement in the attack, but also the existence of the Al-Quaeda terrorist organisation.

      9/11 victims remembered in Moscow

A requiem service has been held in Moscow to remember those who died in the 9/11 terror attacks in New York seven years ago. The requiem service was lead at St. Catherine's Church by U.S. born archimandrite Zahkey (Richard Wood). The ceremony was held both in Russian and English. The U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Beyrle attended the service along with his international counterparts and Russian officials. Beyrle said it was a day for people to mourn not only the victims of the 9/11 attacks, but for innocent people who have died in any terrorist attack.

Washington Casts Doubt on Russian Navy's Abilities

Commenting on plans for Russian-Venezuelan naval exercises, U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack quipped that “they found a few ships that can make it that far,” the Associated Press reports. The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed plans for the exercises in the Atlantic Ocean on Monday. The Western media are tying the exercises to recent events in the Caucasus. That perception was aided by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s statement that the presence of U.S. warships in the Black Sea would not go without response by Russia. However, official Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrey Nesterenko emphasized that the exercises are “a planned event not connected with the current political conditions in the Caucasus.” The official goal of the exercises is to strengthen relations between the two countries. The maneuvers will be the first of their kind for the two countries. They will include joint search and rescue and communications training.

Russia says its Navy ready to thwart any threat to security

Russia's Navy remains a strong force capable of repelling any attack by a potential aggressor, a Navy spokesman said on Tuesday. "The Navy remains a serious deterrent prepared to thwart any threat to Russia's national security, and if necessary provide an adequate response to any act of aggression," Capt. 1st Rank Igor Dygalo said. Russia announced on Tuesday it will send a naval task group, comprising nuclear-powered missile cruiser Pyotr Velikiy (Peter the Great) and support ships, for a sortie in the Atlantic Ocean, and to participate in joint naval drills with the Venezuelan navy in November. Washington immediately responded by mocking the Russian move, which is widely considered a response to NATO's increased naval presence in the Black Sea following a brief military conflict between Russia and Georgia over South Ossetia. U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack jokingly said that if Russia really intended to send ships to the Caribbean, "then they found a few ships that can make it that far." Commenting on this statement, Dygalo said: "Do not forget that the Russian Navy has nuclear submarines and surface ships capable of conducting training and combat missions anywhere in the world."

For instance, the Pyotr Velikiy is a Kirov (Orlan) class nuclear-powered guided missile heavy cruiser, which has a practically unlimited operational range and carries 20 SS-N-19 Shipwreck surface-to-surface missiles with either nuclear or high-explosive warheads and about 500 surface-to-air missiles of different types, supplemented by a large number of other weaponry. "The return of the Russian Navy to global oceans is an accomplished fact, whether you accept it or not," the official said. Russia announced last year that its Navy had resumed, and would build up, its constant presence in different regions of the world's oceans. A naval task force from Russia's Northern Fleet, consisting of the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier, the Udaloy-Class destroyers Admiral Levchenko and Admiral Chabanenko, as well as auxiliary vessels, conducted from December 2007 to February 2008 a two-month tour of duty in the Mediterranean Sea and North Atlantic. The Navy spokesman stressed that Russia has no intention of 'brandishing a stick' and threatening other nations. "The main goal of the Russian Navy is to ensure the national security of the country; those who attempt to find any secret agenda in the upcoming joint naval exercises between Russia and Venezuela are mistaken," Dygalo said. "During the drills, ships and naval aircraft will practice coordinated maneuvering, search-and-rescue, and communications," he said, adding that cooperation between foreign navies is normal international practice.

The Russian Navy retained the vast majority of the former Soviet naval forces, and currently comprises the Northern Fleet, the Pacific Fleet, the Black Sea Fleet, the Baltic Fleet, the Caspian Flotilla, Naval Aviation, Naval Infantry (marines) and coastal artillery. The collapse of the Soviet Union led to a severe decline in the Russian Navy, but the recent rearmament program until 2015 put, for the first time in Soviet and Russian history, the development of the navy on an equal footing with strategic nuclear forces. Out of 4.9 trillion rubles ($192.16 billion) allocated for military rearmament, 25% will go into building new ships. Russia's Navy commander, Adm. Vladimir Vysotsky, said in July that the Navy command had decided to form in the future five or six aircraft carrier task forces to be deployed with the Northern and Pacific fleets. At present, Russia has only one operational aircraft carrier, the Nikolai Kuznetsov, which was commissioned in the early 1990s and has recently re-entered service after a prolonged overhaul.

        Russian Warships Exercise in Atlantic

Joint exercises with Venezuelan ships will be held in the Atlantic Ocean in November of this year as part of the military preparedness plan. Viktor Dygalo, head of the information and public relations service of the Russian Navel Fleet stated that Russia will send a detachment of ships from the North Sea Fleet led by the heavy atomic cruiser Peter the Great. Aircraft carriers will also take part in the exercise, Dygalo said. The ships will carry out a number of joint exercises, including maneuvers, search and rescue and communications training. Dygalo said that he exercises have been in the planning stage for a year and the decision to hold them was made in July at a meeting of the Russian and Venezuelan presidents. Andrey Nesterenko, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry repeated that the exercises are the result of lengthy planning. “It is a planned event not connected with the current political conditions in the Caucasus,” he said. If the exercises take place, he added, they will not be directed against any third countries.

Russia to Deploy Regular Forces in Abkhazia, South Ossetia

Russia will deploy not peacekeepers but rather its regular troops in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced.
“After signing and ratifying the treaty that we have initialed today, they [the troops] will be there under the internationally legal basis. These aren’t the peacekeepers, these are the military contingents, which strength is determined by the Defense Ministry through consultations with its partners in South Ossetia and Abkhazia and which will be there as the troops of a foreign state ensuring, at request of respective party, its security,” Lavrov told journalists Tuesday. Russia’s relations with South Ossetia and Abkhazia are reaching the principally new ground; one of the highlights is ensuring proper functioning of economies of these two republics, Lavrov pointed out after the meeting with foreign ministers of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. “In general, we are sure that, with these two documents signed, all complex of our relations with Abkhazia and South Ossetia will shift to the principally new basis,” Lavrov emphasized. “We face the large-scale tasks of post-conflict rehabilitation of South Ossetia to secure normal functioning of economies both in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, improve living level of nations of these republics,” Russia’s minister said.

Russian strategic bombers land in Venezuela

Two Russian Tu-160 Blackjack strategic bombers have landed at a military airfield in Venezuela, Russia's Defense Ministry said on Wednesday. The Tu-160 Blackjack is a supersonic, variable-geometry heavy bomber, designed to strike strategic targets with nuclear and conventional weapons deep in continental theatres of operation. The bombers will conduct a number of training flights over neutral waters in the next few days and later return to their home base in Russia, the ministry said in a statement. The planes landed at Venezuela's Libertador airfield and during the flight to the South American country were accompanied by NATO fighters. "The flight itinerary extended over neutral waters in the Arctic and Atlantic oceans. The Russian bombers were accompanied by NATO fighters," the statement said. Russia earlier announced it would send a naval task force from the Northern Fleet on a tour of duty in the Atlantic Ocean and participate in joint naval drills with the Venezuelan navy in November. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on September 1 that Venezuela welcomed the Russian Navy and Air Force on its territory. "If the Russian Navy arrives in the Caribbean or the Atlantic it may certainly visit Venezuela, we have no problems with that and would warmly welcome it," Chavez said. "And if Russian long-range bombers should need to land in Venezuela we would not object to that either. We will also welcome them," he said.

Abkhazia seeks to join CIS, Russia-Belarus Union State

Georgia's breakaway republic of Abkhazia is seeking to join the CIS and the Russia-Belarus Union State, the republic's president said on Thursday. The CIS, the Commonwealth of Independent States, is an alliance of ex-Soviet states. Russia recognized the independence of Georgia's breakaway provinces of Abkhazia and South Ossetia on August 26, two weeks after it had expelled Georgian troops from the region following Tbilisi's August 8 offensive against South Ossetia. "I think that after signing the cooperation agreement we will apply to join the Union State. If the CIS expands, we are also ready to participate as well as in the Collective Security Treaty Organization," Sergei Bagapsh told a meeting of the Valdai Club. He said Abkhazia would sign what he called "fundamental" treaties with Russia and South Ossetia on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance in the next few days. Bagapsh dismissed reports that Abkhazia was seeking associate territory status with Russia. "The issue is out of question. Russia has no claims, nor does it want to cede anything," he said, adding that the people of Abkhazia had chosen independence by referendum. The Abkhaz leader said, however, his republic would continue to develop friendly ties with Russia, which he described as Abkhazia's "reliable partner, people who helped us during difficult times." Bagapsh said that Abkhazia wanted to establish a peaceful, democratic and legal-based state. "We do not want war against anyone," he said. "We do not need a single square meter of Georgian territory, but we will not cede our land either, nor the Gali district, or the Kodori gorge." Bagapsh announced his republic would sign an agreement with Russia on the deployment of Russian military bases in Abkhazia to prevent further conflict and strengthen its defenses. He said the agreement would prevent "genocide and a repetition of events in South Ossetia." This year, the Valdai Club will discuss the 21st century international geopolitical revolution and Russia's role in it. The discussions are organized by RIA Novosti, the Foreign and Defense Policy Council, The Moscow News paper, the Russia in Global Affairs and Russia Profile magazines.

South Ossetia May Intend to Join RF

South Ossetia intends to become part of Russia, the republic’s president, Eduard Kokoity, told the international Valdai Club. “We do not intend to make an independent Ossetia,” Kokoity said. Rather, he explained, South Ossetia will unite with North Ossetia. Kokoity stated that the West promised to recognize an independent Tskhinvali, if an independent Ossetia was created from the North, which is part of Russia, and the South. “Western experts, political scientists, proposed that we convince North Ossetia to secede from Russia. They promised recognition before Kosovo,” Kokoity said. He did not answer a foreign journalist’s question about how long South Ossetia would be able to remain independent, preferring to say that the most important thing for North and South Ossetia is the restoration of historical justice. “It is more a humanitarian problem than a political problem,” Kokoity said, adding that the unification of North and South Ossetia is the only way to preserve the nation. “I would be very glad if we were part of Russia,” he said. Later, according to the Interfax information agency, Kokoity contradicted himself and stated that South Ossetia will remain independent. A number of South Ossetian officials have said that the republic will become part of Russia within several years.

Here is picture sideshow of soldiers in the war if your interested in viewing. http://rutube.ru/tracks/983970.html?...db3c3214c99928. I think the photograph at 14-15 is so very amazing and contracting. With military convoy going down the road from the tunnel and majestic landscape in the background.

BMD-4 is Russia's new airborne fighting vehicle. Very impressive weapons platform. Light, fast, well armored, amphibious, airborne, highly accurate fire control system, high firepower, diverse fire capability, easy maintenance... The ideal combat vehicle. These vehicles were used quite extensively by Russian airborne forces during the recent war in Georgia.

                Venezuela to expel U.S. ambassador

                Yankee Ambassador Patrick Duddy

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Thursday he is recalling his own ambassador from Washington and expelling the U.S. ambassador from Venezuela. "He has 72 hours, from this moment, the Yankee ambassador in Caracas, to leave Venezuela," Chavez told a crowd of supporters. The president said he was making the moves "in solidarity with Bolivia and the people of Bolivia." Bolivia's Evo Morales accused the United States Thursday of fomenting a coup d'etat by rich eastern department landowners against him, the country's first Indian president. "We have seen reports about President Chavez's remarks but have not received any official diplomatic communication," said Gordon Duguid, a State Department spokesman. "Our embassy in Caracas is looking into these reports." Also Thursday, Chavez accused the United States of having backed a coup plot against him. "When there's a new government in the United States, we'll send an ambassador," he said. "A government that respects Latin America." Earlier Thursday, Chavez said he has uncovered a U.S.-backed plot to remove him from power. "It's the empire that's behind this," he told supporters in a nationally televised address. "They go around looking for a way to stop our revolution and, with it, to strike all the processes of change that are occurring in our Americas, in the Caribbean, in Central America." Chavez then played a four-minute tape of what he said were conversations among current and retired members of the Venezuelan military discussing whom they could count on to support a movement against the presidential palace. Chavez, who was briefly detained in a failed 2002 coup attempt, said the former plotters "are the same people involved in this coup attempt. Behind them is the American empire." But he said the presence of two Russian warplanes on Venezuelan soil for a training exercise "is a warning" to the rest of the world that Venezuela's allies include Russia and other countries. Chavez added that, should any country in Latin America be overthrown, he would interpret that to be "the green light to undertake military operations of any sort in those countries, and restore power back to the people." And he had a message for President Bush, beseeching him, to "go wherever you have to go and leave the Latin-American people alone." He added, "If they kill me, my God, I don't fear for me, but for what comes after." A U.S. State Department spokesman denied involvement in any coup attempts in Venezuela or Bolivia.

                Deadly clashes strike Bolivia's east

Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez (right) with his Bolivian counterpart and close confidant, Evo Morales

Eight people died Thursday of gunshot wounds in clashes between pro-autonomy militants and Bolivian government supporters in Providencia in the northeastern department of Pando, an official said. Hugo Mopi, spokesman for the governor of Pando, near the border with Brazil, said another 30 people were wounded in the clashes. The dead were supporters of autonomy, and included an employee from the Pando provincial government, an environmental engineer and a housewife, Mopi said. In the southeastern province of Tarija, near the border with Argentina, 88 people were wounded in similar clashes, Tarija government officials said Thursday. Also in Tarija, where most of the country's natural gas comes from, autonomy supporters blew up a pipeline, resulting in $8 million in losses of exports to Argentina and Brazil, the officials said. It will take 15 to 20 days to fix the pipeline, they said. But that may not be the only pipeline interruption. Pro-autonomy groups seized control of a pipeline valve in the nearby town of Yacuiba, also in Tarija. Local authorities and the leader of the national opposition, Jorge Quiroga, accused the federal government of organizing armed bands of militias to take control of Cobija, the capital of Pando. Pro-autonomy groups remained in control Thursday of Santa Cruz, where work had stopped at all central government offices. Meanwhile, American Airlines has suspended its twice-weekly flights to Santa Cruz's civilian airport. A low-profile federal military presence was guarding strategic installations, including a refinery and a small military airfield. Local television showed pictures of people breaking into stores, though many stores remained open. But government supporters in the eastern provinces appear poised to strike back. Peasants who make up the base of President Evo Morales' party have threatened during the past two days to encircle Santa Cruz. The clashes come a day after Morales ordered the expulsion of U.S. Ambassador Philip Goldberg and accused the U.S. government of encouraging the anti-government protesters and supporting his overthrow. A State Department spokesman on Wednesday called Morales' assertion that Goldberg had encouraged anti-government protests "baseless." On Tuesday, Morales expelled agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration from the Chapare region, the third-largest coca-producing region in the world, saying the government could no longer protect them. He ordered Goldberg out, too, during a meeting that the ambassador had called to protest the DEA agents' expulsions. On Thursday, the United States kicked out the Bolivian ambassador. "We regret President Morales has chosen this course," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters Thursday. "It will prejudice the interests of both countries, undermine the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and will have serious regional implications." An embassy spokesman said Thursday that the State Department plans next week to issue a report critical of Bolivia's compliance with anti-drug efforts. Morales draws much of his support from coca growers.

Not exactly, BMD-4 was not in the Caucasus. The Russian airborne forces used only the older Soviet era BMD-1 and BMD-2 vehicles.

As a matter of fact, the Russians used older equipment to defeat the Georgian army. Other examples:

                  - No T-90 or T-80 tanks were used. Only T-72 and even 40 year old T-62 tanks.
                  - No modern BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles. Just BMP-1 and BMP-2.
                  - No MSTA-S self propelled 152mm guns. Just the older ACCACIA.
                  - No SMERCH multiple rocket system. Only the older URAGAN and GRAD.
                  ...and so on.

The older equipment was more than enough to "break the back" of Suckashvili's Western equipped and trained army and force them into a "mother of all retreats" maneuver.

This war, just like the Karabagh war, prooved that it is not only weapons and training that win wars, but the tactics and resolve of the high command plus the will and bravery of the soldier on the ground.
