I don't know if this development is related to the neurotic A-hole in Paris called Sarkozy, but it nevertheless brought a question to mind: Which is worst, the German occupation of France during the Second World War, or the current American occupation of Iraq? The German occupation of France or the current Israeli occupation of the West Bank/Gaza Strip? If you are not sure about the answer, I suggest you do some serious reading about the Nazi occupation of France.

French far-right leader sentenced

French far-right politician Jean-Marie Le Pen has been given a three-month suspended jail term for playing down the Nazi occupation of France. Le Pen, who was also fined 10,000 euros (£7,400), described the occupation as "not especially inhumane". Le Pen, 79, is the leader of the French far-right party, the National Front. He reached a surprise second-place finish in the 2002 French presidential election, after beating the socialist candidate in the first round. Le Pen's remarks were made in an interview with the far-right magazine Rivarol in January 2005. Elsewhere in the article he described the 1944 massacre of 86 people in the town of Villeneve d'Ascq as the actions of a junior officer "mad with rage", and praised the Gestapo for its role in the incident. The French court ruled that Le Pen had denied a crime against humanity and had been complicit in condoning war crimes. This is not the first time that Le Pen has faced legal sanctions for making controversial comments about the actions of the Nazis. In 1987 he was fined for describing the Nazi gas chambers as a "detail of history".

Sarkozy intends to convince Baku of necessity of Karabakh conflict peaceful resolution


/PanARMENIAN.Net/ October 26, Armenian Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan met with French President Nicolas Sarkozy to discuss bilateral political, economic and cultural cooperation. The RA Prime Minister’s invitation to Armenia was accepted by the French President willingly.

In the context of cementing bilateral relations, the parties noted the importance of establishment of Paris House in Yerevan and Yerevan House in Paris.

They also discussed military cooperation and France’s contribution to the development of Armenian atomic energy. Serge Sargsyan and Nicolas Sarkozy said the economic relations should reach the level of political relations between Armenia and France.

As to education and culture, they spoke of necessity to enhance the prestige of the French University in Armenia.

Possibility of visa regime simplification was also discussed.

When referring to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, the parties emphasized that the problem should be resolved exclusively via talks.

France, as a Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, will bring this standpoint to the notion of Azerbaijan during Ilham Aliyev’s visit to France in November, said Mr Sarkozy.

Completing the meeting, Serge Sargsyan and Nicolas Sarkozy underscored that the high-level relationship between Armenia and France should develop, the RA government’s press office reported.

1. How does "putting in danger France's credibility" would make Sarkozy an enemy of the Armenians? That is, to be polite, laughable?

2. As for the alleged "U-turn," so far, you have desperately failed to show how continuing negotiations on partnership is continuing negotiations on membership. You're really obsessed and/or thick headed.

3. As for the referendum, though I don't like the idea, as many have explained - including Devedjian - it is aimed at facilitating the entrance of European countries and the constitution will not be amended if the EU will not officially exclude TEMPORARILY SO CALLED turkey as a part of Europe
(By the way, it is probably unrelated, but, recently, the EU excluded TEMPORARILY SO CALLED turkey from Europe's map on a coin.)

4. As for the participation of the Hezbollah in the negotiations in Lebanon, how does it concern Armenians? By the way, isn't it a good idea to invite all concerned parties to the negotiation table?

Sarkozy revised his stand on Turkey’s EU bid?

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Turkey-skeptic French President Nicholas Sarkozy and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed Monday to continue talks on Turkey’s accession to the European Union during a meeting in New York where the two leaders were present for the United Nations General Assembly meeting.

The two leaders discussed Turkey’s negotiations with the European Union and the meeting was productive and comprehensive. No comments were made to the press after the meeting.

It is noteworthy that the French media and political circles seem to consider the meeting as a non-event, including Sarkozy's rivals and enemies who, usually, take every opportunity to criticize him - even regarding minor issue. NEW YORK (AFP) — French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said Tuesday that he would meet with his Turkish counterpart Ali Babacan to discuss Ankara's contentious bid to join the European Union.

Kouchner said he and French President Nicolas Sarkozy "spent one-hour-and-a-half with Prime Minister (Recep Tayyip) Erdogan yesterday and we decided that the Turkish foreign minister and I will be in charge to establish a sort of working group to consider the whole possibilities" on Turkey's EU membership.

Speaking at the US think tank Council on Foreign Relations, Kouchner said he was among those who convinced Sarkozy, who has spoken out against Turkey joining the EU, to not put a spanner in Turkey's membership negotiations.

The French foreign minister said he thought it would be a mistake not to accept a moderate Muslim country such as Turkey as this would play into the hands of radical Islamists.

Sarkozy said last week he did not believe Turkey belongs in the EU, and that "what I wish to offer Turkey is a true partnership with Europe, it is not integration with Europe."

Kouchner said: "The French position is very clear: we have time."

Of the 35 chapters, or policy areas, in EU membership negotiations "only five suppose the integration inside the European Union, and 30 may be accepted as a sort of partnership. So we'll open the 30 first and it will take years and years," he said.

"Meanwhile we have good relations with Turkey," said Kouchner, who along with Sarkozy was in New York for the UN General Assembly session.

Turkey began EU accession negotiations in October 2005 but it has only managed to open four of the 35 chapters that all candidates must complete to join.

Turkey's talks are expected to last at least a decade, with no guarantee of membership at the end of it all.

In addition to a lack of enthusiasm for the prospect of Turkey joining the EU in some member countries, the process has also been hampered by Ankara's refusal to open its ports and airports to ships and planes from EU member Cyprus.

Sarkozy revised his stand on Turkey’s EU bid?

Prime Minister Erdogan held a separate meeting with Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates who is currently holding the term presidency of the EU. The two leaders discussed ways to speed up Turkey’s negotiations with the EU, the Anatolia news agency reported.
