One of the most underrated composers in history (in my humble opinion), Khachaturian is just amaaaaazing. The Gayane Ballet (ever-famous sabre dance), Spartacus, Masquerade (especially the waltz) and his goosebump-giving violin concerto are all proof that this man's music should be played all around the world. My parents recently went to Armenian National Chamber Orchestra's concert (couldn't go, damn work) celebrating Khachaturian, and they were just amazed. My mom cried, and my dad, who always finds a glitch in any concert
, said that it was a shame that it hadn't taken place in a bigger hall, with more foreigners. Anywho, all this to say: KHACHATURIAN ROCKS!
Here's a great Armenia-based website celebrating Khachaturyan, with a very cool picture gallery (Baghramyan, Chaplin, Hemingway, etc).
Enjoy!
