Re: Nune Yesayan (Նունէ Եսաեան)
Just for the record I'm not "super duper" nune fan I'm not "super duper" fan of anyone at all. But I think it is a fact I have heard from experts about her voice they say it is big powerful voice if this is compelling argument for you or not it's your problem. In the end you don't need 2 people argueing about milk being white but one doesn't like milk others do.
By the way I'm very cool I'm just expressing my point of view at the end we are thalking about music for God sake.
In my post by the word Traditional I was talking about the style not the old songs that have been composed in the past I'm talking about Armenian folk style known as Armenian Traditional songs with Duduk Davour Zourna...etc. For example there is Hamlet Gevorgian who sings Traditional songs NOT old songs.
Comeing back to Nune in her albums she has new songs with old ones. There are songs that she herself has written it. You are right the exsess of old songs isn't nice but it is good to have 1 or 2 old songs made modern. I can't see why it is catastophy for you if the new virsion is nice to listen.

Yay, I'm the original poster!Originally posted by Crimson Glow View PostThe original poster said he/she thinks Nune is one of the greatest Armenian singers. I simply stated why I feel she is not.
Anyway, I understand your point of view, Crimson Glow, but are you sure there isn't even one song that Nune made up herself!?
I'm not a super-duper Nune fan, so I'm not really sure about the answer to that question, so please tell me if you know.

Ah, yes. A very compelling argument.....Originally posted by Armenian1 View PostHi Crimson Glow
Like it or not she has very powerful voice and wide range in her voice.
Ummm.....new songs?Originally posted by Armenian1 View PostWhat do you mean by:
If you think Armenians ahould stop making or singing traditional songs then what should we sing.
Who said anything about copying the West? Where did that comment even come from? There are only so many different ways you can do the same song over....and over.....and over, and over and over again. I'd just like to see some unique, grand-breaking Armenian artists for a change, and you can't be unique and grand breaking by repeating severely overused traditional songs, OR copying the West. Use your imagination a little.Originally posted by Armenian1 View PostIf we copy everything from the west what will we present in return I think singing non-traditional songs are important but if you want to be respected you must add something uniquely yours on that.
Re-read what I wrote. At no point did I say stop making traditional music. What I was getting at is that we need more true artists, and less of this tired, "Hi. I'm going to take songs that have been done a thousand times over, and re-do them in a weak attempt at a 'pop-version'" crap. These are cheap attempts at becoming famous, because the singer knows it will rile up ethnic/nationalist pride, and will rally the people around him/her. It's a sure-fire formula, not unlike the wests "boy band" garbage.Originally posted by Armenian1 View PostMoreover Armenian traditional song is a style if you don't like it don't listen but saying that Armenians shouldn't make Armenian traditional songs that's wrong.
The original poster said he/she thinks Nune is one of the greatest Armenian singers. I simply stated why I feel she is not. Relax, Armenian1. There will be people with dissenting opinions from yours. It's no reason to get defensive. At the very last, don't make straw man arguments to defend your point of view.

Actually, I have a goal of making a new folk/patriotic Armenian song... but it's probably impossible...Originally posted by Crimson Glow View PostI don't find anything unique, or "powerful" about her singing. And there is nothing imaginative or creative about her music overall. Armenians really need to start pushing the artistic envelope. Բարեւ Հայ1: (Originally posted by Armenian1 View PostHi to all I'm new in this forum it seems an intresting forum as for this topic I have a few information about Nune Yesayan and her beginning years.
I have relatives from Damascus,Syria and they have told me some stories about her. This relative of mine was part of a cultural organization in Damascus and often they used to invite her to perform. Nune for many years used to live in Damascus and used to work in a wellknown hotel singing foreingh songs hense her knowlege of Arabic although as I have heard her singing very poor Arabic but still ecouragable. In those days she didn't used to sing Armenian she even refused to sing she used to say that she doesn't find herself in singing Armenian but Armenians living in Damascus often went to the hotel where she worked and moreover as I said they invited her to perform in community events so they kinda "made" her to sing Armenian. So according to my relative when she goes to Damascus she admits it is because of them she has started to sing Armenian
Way to go Nune
I love her a lot very powerful beautiful voice and a lot of good songs keep it up
