It seems to me that most of the "great" Turks of history were not even ethnically Turks, but Armenian, Greek, Serb, Russian, Persian, etc. converts to Islam? The list ranges from Sinan (Greek/Armenian) and Grand Vizier Sokolovic (Serb) to Hurrem (Russian sultana) and many others. Also, most Turks in Western Anatolia actually look pretty much like Greeks and South Slavs. They don't look very Mongoloid at all.
So is Turkish pride based on ruling an empire in which most of the accomplishment (such as it was) and rule was by ethnic non-Turks? Because that seems to be the only thing they really have...
