  • Question about Armenian Church

    Hello.

I was raised in Uzbekistan. In a city I lived in we didn't have an Armenian Church, so I got baptized in a Russian Church.

Now that I am in United States I want to go to an Armenian Church. I think it is important. Before I do that I have to ask a couple of questions.

    1. Do we, Armenians, believe in "Holy Trinity"? That's what they believe in a Russian Church, so basically Russian Church believes in three god, but they think of them as One and call him One. Do we have the same in Armenian Church?

    2. If Armenian Church does not believe in three of them and believes in ONE God then what do we say about Jesus? Russian Church thinks of him as one of the parts of Trinity, so that makes him a God. Do Armenians believe in Jesus is a God, or do we think of him as a man that was sent by a God and given holly abilities?

    Thanks.

Yes, ( Christian) Armenians do believe in the Holy Trinity as all Christians do. It is the pillar of the Christianity.

Please refrain from saying "three gods", it causes great confusion.

      Yes.

No. This is exactly what Muslims say by referring to Christ as simply a God-sent prophet, thus refuting the Holy Trinity and suggesting that some facts ( one being the crucifixion of the Lord..) in the New Testament were skewed...

        Thanks.
So it is basically the same thing, but there were some kind of differences.....
Differences in a calendar. Anything else?

just some liturgical differences, and we use Armenian chant. Some differences in costumes of the clerics from other Churches. However flimsy our differences are from other churches, they helped to keep us politically and culturally distinct and kicking from the others who wanted to assimilate us (mostly Byzantine Greeks) :P
