What do you do when you can't find others?

I have a problem - well, to me it's a problem. I live in a part of the US that has practically no Armenian community whatsoever. If they are here, they are hiding very well! I've been trapped in Baltimore my whole life and I feel very alone here. The closest church is about an hour from where I live. There is no Armenian school, either. It upsets me because I'd really like that closeness and cultural bond that other areas possess. Is there anything I can do? I feel like I've exhausted a lot of my options aside from stalking people in the phone book - and that's a little too creepy stalker-like for my tastes. Any thoughts? And if you do just so happen to live in the Baltimore/DC Metro area, PLEASE SPEAK UP! Thanks.

maybe you should flaunt the fact that you're the only one in Baltimore and gain a desireable reputation for being so unique and exotic, that ought to attract Armenians to compete with you

I don't think you are looking hard enough. What steps have you taken?? Ever been to Alexandria. Richmond. Bethesda. Perhaps you should try contacting fraternal organizations like the Knights (Daughters) of Vartan on the East Coast. Or, even ANC of Greater Washington. I don't endorse either organization but provide them merely as a starting point for further discovery in your quest to solve your loneliness

Like mos said the only thing you can really do is move to a place where there are more Armenians. I'm not saying Armenia but maybe Los Angeles. Especially in Glendale or N. Hollywood if you have the cash.

my uncle lives in Baltimore, hes married to some Irish woman and makes believe hes not Armenian. He goes to Baptist church, he basically erased all his identity, he told me he dislikes the Armenian church and thinks its dumb. He also dropped the ian from his last name so people dont know hes Armenian.
So sorry I dont think you would want to know him. He has himself convinced that hes not Armenian since he was born in America which makes him American. He moved to Baltimore to get away from Armenians. Baltimore is made up up of alot of irish/german people or Blacks. Lots of southerners too.

I've been out there, its a weird place, all these white waspy people or blacks. No Italians, Greek, etc. I went shopping there and people were starring at me like I didnt belong there., racist people. I was glad to get the hell out of there.

I just wanted to note that the Armenians in Glendale are not friendly if your an Armenian who was born and raised in America or a second or 3rd generation Armenian-american. I've said it before on this board, I never met such unfriendly people in my life.
Their only friendly to people like themselves.
Fresno has a nicer class of Armenians.
