Well he had an Armenian surname, but also its common among Iranians to have such surnames.

Don't think so, there are alot of Iranians who have -ian at the end of their name.

Doubt it. He doesn't even look like those darker Armenians so it's a definite no.

I had a Persian friend at school whose last name was Asgarian and I got excited but he wasn't Armenian. I guess he gets it all the time. Moral of the story: It's common for Persians to have Armenian-sounding last names, especially because of the use of Persian loan words in Armenian.
