hometowns

Hello Folks,
I thought it would be nice to have a thread where people can talk about their original hometowns.
I am from Antakya (Hatay) and would like to know if I have any fellow townsman in the forum (There are million things I want to ask and learn if I have one.)
I hope you will be interested in the topic.

I am from Montreal but I used to live in another part of it, I still have great ties to it though so I can still reminisce and continue the feeling I had growing up there quite easily.

Sorry, maybe I couldn't express myself clearly. I meant your ancestors' hometowns. From which city of Anatolia were your grandparents forcibly exiled?

oh, haha. I know my paternal grandmother's parents were from Bitlis, my paternal grandfather was from Istanbul, my maternal grandmother was from Istanbul (she is a Dadian, they were established there for centuries because of their powder mills industry for the Ottoman empire...) my maternal grandfather was from Sivas I believe.

They all meet their spouse and started their families in Istanbul. My parents knew eachother from Istanbul but only started dating well after they came to Canada.

My ancestors did not "migrate". They were either murdered of fled for their lives during the Turkish Genocidal campaign against them.

Anyway, before the Genocide, my grandparents were from the western region of Armenia (not "Anotolia")...Mush and Digranagerd to be specific. Their entire village, including most of their family, were mudered.

After the genocide Midyat, Cizire.

I do know some armenians, greeks and suryani from hatay. So do you also speak arabic like most other hatay people?

My ancestors were from Gyumri(Leninakan) and Etchmiatzin.
